Why does conflict continue to define our times? Dominating our lives?
Why does humanity seem to relearn the value of peace only after devastation reminds us of its cost?
Recent global developments raise unsettling questions about power, aggression, and the fragile nature of coexistence.
Reports from 4th January 2026 suggest a dramatic escalation in the Venezuela crisis, with the United States allegedly carrying out a major military operation, involving special forces and the detention of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Statements about controlling or monitoring Venezuela’s vast oil reserves have triggered strong international reactions, particularly from global powers like China and Russia. Whether viewed as intervention, enforcement, or domination, the situation has sent shockwaves through global geopolitics.
On another front, tensions in East Asia resurfaced when North Korea launched ballistic missiles into the sea between the Korean Peninsula and Japan on January 4, 2026. Japan and South Korea condemned the act as a violation of UN Security Council resolutions, once again highlighting how fragile peace remains in the region.
Closer to home, instability in neighbouring Bangladesh has deeply disturbed many, with reports of violence, lynching of Hindus, and the deliberate creation of religious tensions. Such incidents remind us that conflict is not only fought between nations, but also within societies, often targeting the most vulnerable.
Across continents, the pattern feels familiar.....power struggles, ideological clashes, resource control, and the erosion of empathy??!!
So the question remains open for discussion----
Is conflict an unavoidable part of human history, or a failure of collective wisdom?
Can nations and societies learn coexistence without wars, sanctions, or bloodshed forcing the lesson upon us?
