that’s why I can’t watch that show
I can’t watch full saas bahu shows. Kyunki despite having saas bahu in its name was never a full proper saas bahu show. The saas bahu was always more in the background and instead had lots of love stories/couples and great characters. So I could always watch it in childhood. But reshmi’s shows like SSK and Saathiya are actual saas bahu shows. I was only able to watch Saathiya until the og fl was there
Many ITV shows begin with strong concepts and a great deal of promise, but in the pursuit of TRPs the storytelling often gets prolonged far beyond what the narrative naturally requires. I’m not saying that international shows are perfect, but they tend to avoid excessive dragging, unnecessary filler episodes, and overpowering background music paired with prolonged reaction shots for every character. If ITV creators stay focused on the core plot, invest in tighter storytelling, and aim to conclude stories within a reasonable timeframe, I genuinely believe the industry has the talent and potential to produce truly outstanding shows.

No one watches SSK unless they want to test the limits of their sanity and transcend their limits of endurance where they don’t know what is real anymore and what is myth. Where they question every decision of their lives that led them to watching that twice cursed, thrice damned god forsaken show that’s the goldmine of memes and mockery of Indian entertainment abroad simultaneously.
That’s a fair criticism, and it isn’t limited to just one show. Over time, a large part of ITV prioritize spectacle, shock value, and extended runtimes over coherent, well-structured storytelling. In the race to sustain TRPs, narratives are often stretched far beyond their natural arc, leading to exaggerated twists, inconsistent logic, and an over-reliance on dramatic background scores and reaction shots. As a result, many shows became easier to mock than to engage with seriously especially for audiences outside India. It’s unfortunate, because with tighter writing, clearer endpoints, and respect for the audience’s intelligence, ITV has always had the potential to produce far more impactful and enduring stories.
