I think its the ad revenue. There is contract between channel and show makers. Channel has to pay some definite amount to show makers per episode. So when trps drops ad rates also drop but as the contract is fixed Channel has to pay makers their share of fixed money even from their own pocket. So its Channel who suffers losses while makers are safe in short run. That's why Channels are always in hurry to shut down low trp shows.
