Finally went into the theatre and watched the film and I got so much to say but also not a lot to say.
Akshaye Khanna - Damn. Just damn. The swagger, the charm, the ease with which he became Rehman Dakait. Just damn.
Arjun Rampal - He scared me at the same time as I wanted to kill him so bad. I mean he is downright cruel in this film.
Ranveer Singh - Despite his flops, one thing I've liked about some of Ranveer Singh's work is that when he gets down to it he can give a really good performance without the overacting and this is one of those places. He's in the foreground, but also in the background. He's there, but not there. Just like a spy should be. Seen, but forgotten. In the moment, but also planning ahead.
I wanted to talk about those 3 specifically, but I must say the entire cast was well-chosen and did their parts well. The movie flowed and just kept you hooked thanks to the great work by all these actors.
Of course, acting isn't enough. Good writing, proper direction, and a good flow are necessary. And Aditya Dhar and the entire crew get that down well. There are some things left for us to interpret, but by in large, Dhar gives us everything in front of us.
Special mention to the Parliament and 26/11 scenes. Those really gave goosebumps and made you feel.
I've got to say though - the blood and gore was a little too much. I didn't mind the violence. I get it. But like did you really need to show people being decapitated, their heads being blown off, their brains, etc.? I'm a true crime, crime fiction, thriller buff, but even these scenes were too much for me. I had to close my eyes at some points because of certain scenes. Even with the A-rating, it seemed a bit too much.
I'm very curious who this Bade Sahib is and how long Hamza can remain hidden. Dhar chose a perfect point to end the film. Leave the audience waiting for more!
