I don't know why Gangubai is cited but it had become one of the movies where the worldwide gross collection was taken to declare a positive verdict ... Sacnilk didn't give one, btw., as the India net collection wasn't favourable to the hit-verdict given by others:

India Net ₹ 132.01 Cr // Worldwide Gross ₹ 211.5 Cr // Overseas ₹ 56 Cr (a bit more than 1/3 of the India gross collection) // budget 180 cr

This may have been the reason why Bhansali had problems to get producers for Love & War...

Nevertheless - with a less elevated budget - Gangubai wouldn't have had a 'bad' outcome for an after-Covid movie with the leading protagonist being a female character and the movie being a biopic.

Kriti's filmography has been mid to bad. It is from Crew, TBAUJ, Do Patti and now TIM that she has got the meatier parts and she has done well.

Is Mimi not counted ? It won her the "paan masala filmfare award"

I do not know how..There is a reason why SLB could not find producers for Baiju Bawra and even for Love and War with Ranbir in it ( who does have box office pull) SLB could not find a producer. He is producing it on his own.

It was an OTT release , so we would not know how it may have fared at the Box office. She got a hit song atleast.

But SLB always produces his own movies and Gangubai was a major hit. It was 2022 beg..cinemas just reopened..and after sooryavanshi..this was the 2nd movie which brought audience to cinema..it made 210cr WW..it was a hit on the same basis sooryavanshi was a hit on 195cr domestic with a 200cr budget..cinemas were operating at 50% capacity due to covid hence they were giving verdicts differently.

SLB always had co producers. Gangubai had PEN. Padmaavat was co produced by Viacom. Bajirao Mastani was co produced by Eros. Jio was set to co produce Love and War but they backed out. So SLB is producing it all by himself.

The difference bw 195-200 and 126 - 180 is not the same though.

I don't know who spread these fake rumors about Love & War not finding financiers😂 but Jio is co-producing the film with SLB. It's also on their official slate of 2026 releases. So maybe put it to rest. Neither does SLB have that kinda money NOR does a film starring Ranbir & Vicky have shortage of producers.
