As we step into the final month of 2025, it’s time to welcome our December Reading Challenge with fresh enthusiasm and festive spirit!

We’re back with the December 2025 edition of the Book Talk Reading Challenge! Since December brings the spirit of Christmas, our theme for this month is: “Celebration of Christmas.”

📚Let’s dive into stories that inspire, uplift, and fill our hearts with light and positivity📚

As usual, in this month also, the reading challenge will have 2 parts:

Part 1: To participate in the regular reading challenge, sign up on the thread, telling us how many books you will be able to read in December, and also mention if you can volunteer as captain.

1 to 5 books

6 to 10 books

11 to 20 books

20 to 35 books

More than 35 books (up to 50)

Only those who read a minimum of 200 pages will receive the participation (tiered) badge.

Books in any language, any genre are allowed, provided they are chapter books. Graphic novels, comics, etc., that are heavy on illustrations and low on text aren’t allowed. Books must be a minimum of 60 pages to qualify. Plays are okay, but we aren’t including poetry at this juncture.

We will also allow FFs/online fiction of 18,000+ words OR 60 + pages. Shorter fics can be allowed provided they are logged as the same entry. For e.g.:

If you read 3 FFs that are 6000+ words / 20 pages each, you will log them as one entry of 18000 / 60 pages.

Please note: You can log a maximum of 5 fics in this manner. Which means if you are reading only 10 page (or shorter) fics, they won’t qualify. You will have to read one longer fic so that 5 fics will total 60 pages.

ARC and beta-reading will also be included. However, reading or proofreading your own work will not count.

All book formats will count: Physical books, e-books, and Audiobooks.

In order to win this beautiful badge, you will need to read a minimum of 200 pages of Christmas/ Winter holiday-themed fiction/ non-fiction.

You need to read a minimum of 200 pages of Christmas- or winter holiday-themed books.

This includes books that revolve around: Christmas celebrations, Winter holidays, Snow-based or winter-season settings, Stories that set in December that prominently feature winter vibes, festivities, or seasonal themes, as long as the central atmosphere aligns with Christmas or winter holidays.

These books can be included in your page logs for your team as well, so you stand to earn 2 badges if you participate in both the Christmas Theme Challenge and the regular monthly Reading challenge.

This is an optional challenge.

You can choose to participate in only the December Reading Challenge OR only the Christmas Theme challenge, or both.

In addition to reading 200 pages, you have to post a short review and 2 quotes highlighting how the book relates to the Christmas theme in the Christmas Reads Reviews thread.

📚Is it mandatory to sign up for the Reading Challenge to do a Christmas Read?

You don’t have to sign up for the Reading Challenge and can only participate in Christmas Read, but do let us know when you sign up. In this case, you will receive only the Christmas Reads Badge.

📚 What do you mean by ‘participation must be evident on the thread’?

Well, we want to see you actively posting your thoughts about the book(s) you are reading. Whether you post chapter-wise (as you read) or a review at the end, followed by quotes, is entirely up to you. You can talk about what appealed to you, post discussion questions about points that intrigued you and share real-life experiences you related to Christmas while reading. You can post a character analysis or points to ponder.

📚Does the Christmas books counts for the reading challenge as well? Or is it separate?

Yes, the Christmas book reads do count for the regular monthly reading challenge, and they will be added to your team’s total as well.

📚what books count as "Christmas" books. Like if I read a mystery and it has 1 chapter set around "Christmas" does that count? Or if it's a book set in winter and snow, does that count? What exactly counts as Christmas and will there be like a separate thread to post a review on the "Christmas" book?

Any book that includes a Christmas theme, chapter, orientation, winter, snow, yearend holidays or is primarily based on Christmas will be counted in the challenge.

📚Can you explain what you mean by Holiday books? Can it be any book related to Winter/December or it has to mention Christmas specifically?

And 200 pages in total or each book?

Holiday books means....books that include any one of the following themes or a combination of those... will be counted. Christmas, Winter, December holidays.

In short: If the book contains any of these themes, it qualifies as a Holiday Book for the challenge.

200 pages in total.

📚 Can you tell me what's the difference between Reading challenge and Christmas read?

The basic difference is, for Reading Challenge, you can read any book/ books, and for Christmas Reads, there is a specific theme, i.e, the Christmas/ December/ Dec holidays/ Dec snow based theme.

📚If I read only one book and based on Christmas theme, does that qualify for monthly reads as well as the theme?

Yes, if that book contains 200+ pages, you'll get both the cute badges!

Pls correct me if I am wrong, the minimum has been 200 pages for a tiered badge since the start of the contest, right ?
