It was a performance to cherish. Priyamani's portrayal of a southern rural belle 'Muthazhagu' has got national recognition in the form of the highly prestigious National Award for the year 2006 in the best actress category.

'Paruthi Veeran' had a refreshingly woven screenplay about the lives of a 'don't care attitude' rustic ruffian played by debutant Karthi (actor Suriya's brother) and his unconventional love affair with childhood sweetheart Muthazhagu.

Both characters in the backdrop of a drought hit rural village went on to become instant hits with audiences all around Tamilnadu. The dialogue modulation of Karthi complimented Priyamani's character in a big way.

Director Ameer, who needs to be credited for a stupendous narration and building up of the characters burnt the midnight oil for this production and was literally behind the actors to perform as he wanted them to.

Priyamani had worked with Balu Mahendra for the movie 'Adhu Oru Kanaa Kaalam'. Though the movie didn't do too well at the box office her performance was appreciated.

The climax shots of 'Paruthi Veeran' saw Priyamani at her very best. She played a gang rape victim, who had been severely injured on her head. Scenes that can move even the stone hearted to tears.

An elated Priyamani said, "It is a dream come true experience for me. I am still flying high. I thank my director Ameer for helping me achieve this rare honor".
But you refused to act as his pair in his new venture ๐Ÿ˜‰

Priyamani added, 'I never expected that 'Paruthi Veeran' would go on to get me an award. I performed what Ameer wanted me to do'. Yes.. he's just too good an actor himself!

"I thank all my co-stars and crew for helping me achieve this feat", she said and added, "My mentors' director Bharathiraja and Balu Mahendra deserve a special mention".

"I feel I should be more choosy and select my roles with care in the coming days. I vouch to continue my work and contribute the best for a movie's successes", she added.
Yeah..Please follow your own words. Don't wish to see you in another Thotta type movie.

Paruthi Veeran's editor Raja Mohammad has won the National Award as Best Editor.

Thanking director Ameer, he said, "I made my debut in 'Nala Damayanthi' and 'Paruthi Veeran' is my 20th film. I thank all my crew for the success".

Congrats Priya! You truly deserve it.
And double Congrats on being selected by the great Mani Ratnam to be cast as a supporting actress in his next venture.
Good luck Priya!

Scorching 'Veyyil' cools hearts at the national awards
Source: IndiaGlitz

Vasanthabalan's 'matter-of-fact' movie 'Veyyil' has won the 54th National Film Awards in the Best Tamil Film category for the year 2006.

The movie was earlier selected for screening at the prestigious Cannes film festival.

Past mistakes brand a man and the character played by Pasupathi stands testimony to that.

Produced by director Shankar, the movie came across as a gripping tale and thoroughly deserves the National Award it has won.

Congratulations to the Veyyil team!
It's only a matter of time for Pasupathy to bag a National award. Way to go Pasupathy!

That could be true in a lot of cases, CL.

But, PriyaMani's win this time is very legit. For her portrayal as Muthazhagu, she deserved that award, every bit. And I'm hoping she'll be recognized well and get a break in Kolly, at least after this.

She sounded so genuine and happy in her interview. Did you get a chance to listen to her interview in IndiaGlitz?

I still think Ameer should have gotten some award or the other for his ParuthiVeeran. May be, next time Ameer.

Am half canaries and half tamil myself, so it's easy to appreciate Priyamani for getting the national award and feel pride.
I've seen her in lots of Suntv interviews and not the movie itself. She carries herself very well. I did see the bharatiraja movie she acted in. She has versatility.
Also Bharat promoting Veyyil. What a bonanza it's going to be for him.

Saw this on Tv Tuesday night!

Congoo shongo Priya!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘U've achieved wht even Simran cudn't. Heard the jury selected u unanimously. U won hands down!Priya mani in the league of Smitha Patil, Shabana Azmi, Shobhana, and Meera Jasmine..wow!

As I've said b4, it was amazing how a Bangalore based girl cud portray a village girl so convincingly. The gang rape scene was something! ๐Ÿ‘

Its also a tight slap on the face fr Mal cinema. She is a Mal cinema reject. It's amazing how Mal cinema rejects make t big in other statesโ€ฆโ€ฆVikrma, Asin , Nayan Tara , and now Priyamani.they r all examples. It's pity tht Mal cinema cud utilize her only in second grade potboiler movies like Sathyam(a horrible so-called adaptation of Kakka Kakka). One the other hand, she didn't make use of the opportunity too.๐Ÿ˜•

I don't think this National Award will make a diff to her career, though. She'll hv to continue wht she did in Malaikottai and Thottijaya, to STAY. Nor can she increase her salary to some 50 lkhs now. On the other hand, she'll now have to be very very choosy with her filmsโ€ฆโ€ฆa national award always make ppl expect more frm the winner. It hs been like tth for Meera Jasmineโ€ฆ..for Keralites, where there's Meera Jasmine, they just don't want to miss it at allโ€ฆ.and we r so confident tht the film will be soemthing if it has MJ in it. ๐Ÿ˜›

Waiting for the 2007 awards which will be announced next yr. Half of me have my hopes pinned on Meera Jasmine for a Mal movie๐Ÿ˜›๐Ÿ˜›-I've never seen anything like tht b4!the other half hopes tht Jyothika wins it for Mozhi.๐Ÿ˜Š Though , chances r less, coz the role of a deaf and a mute girl hs been tried out b4,and Mozhi is more of a commercial entertainer(not a Masala film , though) thn an 'award' film. But Lage Raho Munnnabhai's feat at the awards hv raised my hopes.Mozhi has all chances of winning the Best Family entertainer of the yr award ; and if Saif Ali Khan can win for Hum Tum, then Jyothika definitely can! ๐Ÿ˜‰
