Known as the first family of Bollywood, the Kapoors have been a successful lot. They have all been stars in their own right.
Initially, the Kapoor tradition didn't allow their women to act in films. However, ultimately, this myth was broken by Randhir Kapoor's elder daughter, Karisma Kapoor, in 1991. In a short period of time, with lots of hard work, Karisma established herself. Younger sister Kareena joined in 2001, to become the reigning star today.
Karisma's career yielded many hits. Bebo, on the other hand, is now more popular for her size zero figure than her hits. Karisma began with Prem Qaidi, which didn't work at the box office. Bebo too had a lukewarm debut with J P Dutta's Refugee. However, the film did act as a platform for her. While Karisma has a Coolie No 1 and Biwi No 1 to her credit, she also created quite an uproar with her performance in Zubeida and Fiza. Similarly, Kareena boasts a Chameli and Dev, all the while donning designer clothes for commercial potboilers like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham.
Another common factor between the two sisters is they were more in the news off screen than on. While Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma were together for a while and even got engaged, their relationship couldn't take off. She broke up with the junior B to tie the knot with industrialist Sanjay Kapur. Similarly, with Kareena, while she was with Shaahid Kapur for almost four years, their relationship fizzed out as in came Chotey Nawab Saif Ali Khan.
Karisma is now happily married and away from the glitzy world of showbiz, while Kareena is reigning at Number One with the success of Jab We Met. Looks like the Kapoors are here to stay.
