1pm local: Couldn't this day have waited just a little bit longer? We've only had some 3740 minutes since Amanjot Kaur cut Sophie Molineux to the boundary and sealed a win for the ages. That's hardly enough time to properly go through the epic scenes that unfolded on one of Indian cricket's greatest nights. Every frame, every angle, every word that was said and every tear that was shed. But I guess India and South Africa have waited long enough. The women have waited long enough. It's the next big step in a revolution that promises to bring about lasting change in two countries that are absolutely ready for it. It's the World Cup final. No we don't have any tickets, just our words to take you through it all. Welcome. The threshold of greatness awaits...

On that point below, here's more from Purnima: Two hours out from toss, there were thousands outside trying to find a ticket, flaunting posters, posing for cameras. Two hours out from toss, I repeat - something I've never seen or heard before for a women's game. That tells you everything you need to know about how Harman's 171* in 2017 and Jemimah's 127* two nights ago - and everything that's come between - transformed the profile of the women's game in the country.

India Women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur could be the key player in this high-stakes clash. She has amassed 240 runs in the tournament so far and played a composed knock against Australia Women in the semi-final. She is known for rising to the occasion in crucial matches, and will once again look to lead from the front and guide India to victory.

South Africa Women’s pacer Marizanne Kapp could prove to be the key bowler in this contest. She has claimed 12 wickets so far in the World Cup, including a stunning five-wicket haul against England Women in the semi-final. Her 10-over spell will be crucial in the final, as she has the ability to trouble batters with the new ball and strike again in the later stages of the innings.

1.45pm local: Covers still on, the skies look gloomy but that hasn't stopped the fans from pouring in.

The stories will only spread like wildfire from here. Of a young prodigy rushing to the airport to welcome her heroes, of a prophecy made from a few throwdowns, and then of a seasoned player fighting her own battles to conquer the unconquerable. And there's not just Jemimah. Every single player in that team has made their own path through unimaginable adversity.

South Africa's path to this grand stage has been no less challenging. When Mandla Mashimbyi took over as head coach, he had the task of uniting a dressing room that had just experienced a heartbreaking loss in the T20 World Cup final. It was the second successive final they had lost in the shortest format during a period of inner turmoil. Their self-doubts would've only been aggravated when they were shot out for 69 in Guwahati to start their campaign. They were then ripped apart by Alana King a few matches later. But here they are, in their first ODI World Cup final led by their talismanic captain Laura Wolvaardt who made an all-time great hundred in the semifinal against England.

2.17pm local:, Okay, finally some blue skies. Covers also starting to come off. Umpires are in a conflab with the groundstaff and there are no umbrellas to be seen.

2.10pm local: No movement from the groundstaff at DY Patil and the covers are still on. The scheduled time for toss is just 20 minutes away. Might have a delay.

The covers are being peeled off but Sruthi promptly notes that there are a few wet patches which might need some working upon. No official confirmation yet, but we could be heading towards a delayed toss.

Almost all of the covers are off now. But there is what looks like a problematic puddle in the wide long off region (for a right-hander when bowling from the end where the press box is situated), and that might need a mop-up operation. The sun is out now, Sruthi tells me, and that can only be a good sign.
