You weren’t analyzing the box office. You were mocking Janhvi.

A lot of festivals require a movie to have some kind of theatrical release before they can screen it. Oscars definitely does. That’s why a lot of small films in US will release in a handful of theaters just so they can be eligible for consideration.

Homebound is a movie that incites discussion about sensitive issues in India... the promotional tactic of making Janhvi such a prominent part was - imo - completely wrong (and counterproductive).

There is nothing 'glamorous' about the movie where a well researched real incident got thoroughly extended into a fictionalized but still realistic narration. I don't appreciate one bit how Karan/Dharma handle a movie that may not have got an entrance into Cannes without the French woman producer who had co-produced Neeraj's first movie Masaan and also brought Scorsese 'on board'. When I saw how Janhvi (out of her own mind or Karan's or whoever's) quasi took center stage (allegedly with her mother's sari, in addition) but without at least Shalini Vatsa at her side, I was slightly appalled.

No matter how much her PR n her near n dear ones forces her onto audiences she will be flop only.

I agree with your take on this. And I would say it’s both of them. And if Janhvi’s PR is Dharma’s PR agency then they’re one and the same.
