Chapter 7: Baarish Mein Bikhre Jazbaat

The monsoon clouds gathered overhead, casting a gray veil over Shimla’s winding streets. The air was thick with the promise of rain, the scent of wet earth rising like an old memory.

Geet hurried through the narrow alleyways, clutching her dupatta close against the sudden gusts. The sangeet ceremony had ended hours ago, but her mind was restless, refusing to find peace.

She needed air — needed to think.

As she stepped into the quiet garden outside the resort, the first drops began to fall, gentle at first, then growing stronger. She closed her eyes, letting the rain wash over her, mingling with the tears she tried to hide.

The rain was cold, but somehow comforting — like nature itself was cleansing her tangled heart.

“Geet!”

The voice startled her. She turned to see Maan running toward her, his coat half-open, his hair damp.

“I was looking for you,” he said, voice rough with urgency.

Geet’s heart quickened.

“You shouldn’t be out here alone,” Maan scolded gently, though his eyes betrayed his worry.

“I needed this,” Geet said, voice barely above a whisper.

They stood there in the rain, two souls soaked in memories and feelings too long buried.

Maan reached out, brushing a wet strand from her face.

“Why didn’t you tell me? All these years?”

Geet looked down, ashamed. “I was scared. Scared of being vulnerable again.”

Maan shook his head slowly. “I was scared too. Scared of losing you.”

Her eyes met his, shimmering with unshed tears. “Then why did you leave?”

His gaze darkened with regret. “Because I thought you wanted me to.”

“Did you ever try to find out?”

He looked away. “I should have. I was a fool.”

For a long moment, silence wrapped around them like the rain.

Then, Maan stepped closer, voice breaking. “Geet, main tumse tab bhi pyaar karta tha, aur aaj bhi karta hoon.”

Geet’s breath caught in her throat.

She wanted to scream, to run, to hold him — all at once.

“I don’t know what to do,” she admitted, voice trembling. “I’m engaged to Aryan. He’s good to me… but you… you’re my past and my present.”

Maan’s hand found hers, squeezing gently. “And maybe your future.”

The rain fell harder, soaking their clothes, blending tears and droplets indistinguishably.

Geet leaned into Maan, seeking warmth in the storm.

“I want to be with you,” she whispered. “But I’m afraid.”

“Fear is natural,” Maan said. “But love… love is braver.”

They stood there, rain falling, hearts spilling truths long held silent.

The morning sun poured through the sheer curtains of Geet’s room, but it failed to brighten the shadows clouding her heart. Outside, the world moved on—laughter, chatter, the everyday rhythm of life—but inside, Geet was trapped in a tempest of emotions.

Her engagement ring caught the sunlight, glinting sharply like the questions piercing her mind.

Aryan had been nothing but kind and understanding. His gentle patience and unwavering support were constants she could rely on. Yet, when she closed her eyes, she heard only Maan’s voice — raw, sincere, filled with a love she had never forgotten.

“I don’t want to hurt Aryan, but I can’t deny my feelings for you anymore.”

Geet’s eyes welled up.

“I’m torn between duty and desire. Between what’s expected and what my heart demands.”

Maan nodded.

“Love is never simple. But it’s worth fighting for.”
