Afghanistan missed two big opportunities to get early wickets. In the first over, Omarzai couldn't hold on to a tough catch. Then, in the third over, a chance flew right between the wicketkeeper and first slip. A very close umpire's call on an LBW also went Bangladesh's way, giving their openers a couple of early lifelines. After those close calls, the Bangladeshi openers started to play smarter. They seized control of the powerplay, with four boundaries in one Farooqi over and a huge six off Ghazanfar, setting a strong tone. Their brilliant powerplay performance resulted in a score of 59 runs, thanks to some big hits from the openers. The 63-run opening partnership finally ended when Rashid Khan bowled Saif Hassan with a googly. Bangladesh continued to play well against the spinners, reaching 89 runs by the 10th over. However, things changed after the drinks break when Noor Ahmad was brought into the attack. He immediately trapped Litton Das LBW and then, in the very next over, also got the key wicket of Tanzid Tamim, who had just scored the fastest T20I fifty for Bangladesh in Asia Cup. From there, the Afghan bowlers, especially the spinners, did an excellent job of squeezing the run rate in the middle and death overs. The Bangladeshi batters played a staggering 48 dot balls. Rashid and Noor were the stars, each picking up two wickets. The fast bowlers, Farooqi and Omarzai, were also impressive, giving away only 24 runs in the last three overs. We'll be back shortly for the run chase.
