And while we’re talking about 2006 films that didn’t get their full due, can we pause for Umrao Jaan?

It may not have set the box office on fire, but JP Dutta’s remake was achingly beautiful in its own right. Aishwarya Rai as Umrao was all grace and melancholy — she wasn’t Rekha, she didn’t try to be, and that’s what made it poignant. The languid pacing, the poetry, Anu Malik’s music (soaked in nostalgia), and Chitra’s haunting vocals gave it a rare old-world texture.

I loved it. I don't think it was a hit, but it was beautiful.

And the songs still linger on, especially this one:

If there is a phrase I have to choose for Dor, it would be Lesser Known Masterpiece. So yes...

Wrt Umrao Jaan remake, music was good, Aishwarya looked out of this world, straight from Apsara's lineage and I loved Sabana Azmi in grey shade, but that is about it.. Rekha was, is, and will forever remain the ultimate Umrao Jaan, at least for me...
