And while we’re talking about 2006 films that didn’t get their full due, can we pause for Umrao Jaan?
It may not have set the box office on fire, but JP Dutta’s remake was achingly beautiful in its own right. Aishwarya Rai as Umrao was all grace and melancholy — she wasn’t Rekha, she didn’t try to be, and that’s what made it poignant. The languid pacing, the poetry, Anu Malik’s music (soaked in nostalgia), and Chitra’s haunting vocals gave it a rare old-world texture.
I loved it. I don't think it was a hit, but it was beautiful.
And the songs still linger on, especially this one:

If there is a phrase I have to choose for Dor, it would be Lesser Known Masterpiece. So yes...
Wrt Umrao Jaan remake, music was good, Aishwarya looked out of this world, straight from Apsara's lineage and I loved Sabana Azmi in grey shade, but that is about it.. Rekha was, is, and will forever remain the ultimate Umrao Jaan, at least for me...

Dor movie is a masterpiece
Fabulous performance by Ayesha and Gul
Music was damn good..
I agree Umrao Jaan was an amazing and charming film that truly captivated me. Aishwarya Rai delivered one of her finest performances her dance skills were showcased beautifully, and she was absolutely mesmerizing in every scene. I loved almost all the songs; they were soulful and well-composed. I never really understood why the film was rejected by many it felt underrated. Perhaps the long runtime worked against it, and being a remake might have made it harder for audiences to embrace. Still, it remains a film that deserved far more appreciation than it received.
I haven’t watched Dor yet, but if it’s worth it, I might give it a try. I’ve heard good things, and if it has the emotional depth and strong performances people talk about, it could be something I’d enjoy
