I think the dynamics of his relationship with Mannat and his relationship with Malla are different so it kind of becomes difficult to judge him based on the trust he has shown the two.
His relationship with Mannat has had challenges with his family openly showing their dislike of Mannat. Vikrant has failed to manage those challenges and it directly affected the relationship with trust becoming an issue. It then came down to his family and Mannat. Mannat broke him with asking for money and the whole family now tells him we told you so. Your judgement about that girl was always wrong.
Malla is part of his family. He probably saw her in the same light he sees Anu before the ONS. Malla played him and she has their entire family as her weapon. He was basically ruled the bad guy in the ONS.
The external forces he has to respond to in dealing with Mannat and Malla are different.
Exactly, his family and his upbringing plays a major role in his trust and/or how he acts with Mannat, where as Malla gets a free pass since she comes from the same social/family circle as him and Anu.
