Rahul shakes hands with Jamie Smith as they players walk off. Stunning knock it was from the England wicketkeeper-batter after walking in at 84/5 and he shared a mammoth partnership of 303 with Harry Brook who scored a hundred as well. But it's India who are bossing this Test, leading by 244 with nine wickets in hand. So far they've rectified the mistakes made in Leeds where they consistently allowed England back into the game despite dominating large parts of it. None of that

Two centuries from the England side, that saved them from follow-on.

India reached 64/1 at Stumps, and lead by 244 runs against England, on Day 3 in Birmingham. KL Rahul (28*) and Karun Nair (7*) remained unbeaten for India and will resume batting on Day 4. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal lost his wicket early, departing for 28 off 22 balls. Jamie Smith’s 184* took England to 407 in their first innings, in response to India’s 587. Meanwhile, Harry Brook also registered 158 off 234 balls, before losing his wicket to Akash Deep. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj took a six-wicket haul.

Siraj finished with six, Akash Deep took four, and they've taken India to a superb position to finish the job. The pitch looks very much a new ball pitch at the moment. There still isn't much turn on offer and the variability in bounce isn't causing too many headaches yet. England, though, need to pull up their socks. They were awful with the ball in that little spell before stumps.

Welcome to the 4th day of play, which is going to be a very interesting one, because, India should put 450+ score in their second innings and then declare. And then, the bowlers' role will be vital to reach a significant result at the end.

Jamie Smith's career-best 184* and Harry Brook's 158 in a counterattacking 303-run partnership helped England avoid the follow-on in the second Test at Edgbaston, but a bag full of ducks otherwise and a Mohammad Siraj six-fer ensured India secured a significant lead of 180. To that, the visitors added 64/1 more in the final hour before stumps were drawn on Day 3 in overcast Birmingham.

Down to 84/5, England looked in serious trouble but the arrival of Smith bought urgency in their scoring. And they were further aided by a lean slip cordon that allowed for easy scoring opportunities. The English wicketkeeper sent the hat-trick ball straight down the ground for a four to get going, and thus began a stunning counterpunch that lasted for over two sessions.

They might not let us posted 450 run lead, their plan A was to reach 350 in their first innings & restrics india for 150 so i Assume their new plan to restrics us in before lunch and take 2/0 lead by tomorrow if rain God not disturb their path

Can we surrender that fast? Our lead is already 244 runs.

The collapse was quick from the start of 3rd session. Chris Woakes was alongside Smith when England avoided the follow-on, but the all-rounder didn't last long. Going for an expansive drive, Wokaes instead sent a thick outside edge to first slip, where Karun Nair completed a low catch. Akash finished with figures of 4 for 88.

Siraj cleaned up the tail. He bagged his fourth of the innings on review after being turned down in an LBW appeal against Bryon Carse. But Siraj got the ball to nip back in and pinged the English bowler on the front pad plumb in front as he came forward in defense.

Brief scores: India 587 & 64/1 (KL Rahul 28*, Yashasvi Jaiswal 28; Josh Tongue 1-12) lead England 407 (Jamie Smith 184*, Harry Brook 158; Mohd. Siraj 6-70, Akash Deep 4-88) by 244 runs
