The sad thing about this is, it's happening everywhere except the place it needs to happen in the most; i.e. West Bengal.

We need nothing short of a purge here now, the state has been completely engulfed by this quagmire.

That can be done if the sample size is as small as of a single institute or at the max a single city.

They can't get access to all the students across the state using this method.

And I think you yourself will agree a single institute/city isn't a sample size big enough to give a clear representation

P.S. in class interview to check the castes of students is discrimination under SC ST act. So that can't be done.

That isn't there to the poor students (as compared to the rich reserved candidates) so obviously the poorer ones will not be able to compete

How is the statement correct if you don't have the correct sample size? I am from an autonomous University and the majority of reserved students were from rural or relatively underprivileged classes.

Yes, it goes without saying that the ones with wealth will have more access to the institutions. But we need to remember, the ebtire purpose of reservation is to keep the members of SC/ST class in the same space as the UR or UC ones, in order to breed tolerance and non-discrimination.

If some percentage of privileged students get in, the rest will follow too; its the trickle down theory. Yes, the people in rural areas don't jave proper infrastructure or good schools; that is also a reason. I agree that the grassroots need to be strengthened.

Both reservation at the upper levels and reform at the grassroot levels need to be carried out simultaenously.

No, it was of various cities (with multiple Institutions from each city), as far as I remember.

It's not exactly checking for caste; these surveys are like caste censuses done by the government; intended to check the progress of people from the SC/ST background. So it's not discrimination.
