We often come across films with more than one hero or heroine, and there seems to be favoritism or biased behavior towards some.

Sharing some films/songs here, you can share where you feel makers did it to others.

---

Film: Dil Toh Pagal Hai

I felt that the team of costume designers, including Karan Johar, was more biased towards Shah Rukh and Karisma compared to Madhuri and Akshay. The way Shah Rukh and Karisma were styled made them look more vibrant and stylish than Madhuri and Akshay. This was Akshay's second film with Yash Raj Films, yet for a small role, they chose dull, outdated clothes and colors for him. For Madhuri, who was the love interest of the hero, they gave her suits in dull colors and weird outfits in some songs. Overall, it was clear that the main focus on looking glamorous and attractive was given to Shah Rukh and Karisma in a biased way. Although Madhuri was brilliant in the film, without a doubt, I felt that she should have been offered the same kind of styling as Karisma, with sporty, vibrant outfits.

Here in song clearly visible the difference:

Not sure if Karishma s outfits would have suited Madhuri at that time. Madhuri played a classical dancer initially. So she got those dresses.

Later when she performed with SRK on stage, she wore sporty dresses similar to Karishma i think.

Madhuri s outfits were sold everywhere i think after that movie. It was very famous in the markets i think. Chiffon salwars etc.

Just my opinion. Have nothing against both the actresses.

Dtph was the beginning of the end of Madhuri's career. When a second lead overshadows the main lead,It is over. If you look at the filmography, Rani's graph soared after kkhh.. she got Amir, Salman,SRK,HR as heroes. Yes Kajol got KKKG,But SRK was choosing Aishwarya,Bebo,Preity,Manisha..Yes,she had films with Anil,Ajay...I understood why she got married then. The same happened with Parineeti, after she overshadowed Anushka.. Anushka didn't get films outside yrf for years..

Ranveer vs Shahid in Padmavat is the best example of this IMO.

Yash Chopra also did this in Darr, between SRK and Sunny, hence Sunny had a fall out with YRF.

Both in Padmaavat and Darr, it was the case of strong ''negative'' character,A strong negative character always stands out. Gabbar singh a classic example..

Akshay in Ajnabee, Priyanka in Aitraaz, tons of examples.

Plus Shahid being a miscast also didn't help.

In the case of DTPH, the characterisation of Madhuri was monotonous, uni dimensional, whereas for Karishma, it was multi dimensional, hence had more depth and more scope.

What do you mean ! Madhuri looked lovely in that movie. Her clothes looked great. She looked tacky and in her most of her older movies. Ugh all those gaudy clothes with the glitter and scarves and glittery make up on top of it. She looked like a dream in that dholna song . Also Dil toh pagal hai was the original kuch kuch hota hai with the ' tomboy' vs girly girl binary. So obviously they were styled differently.

There might have been favouritism in multi-actors movies. But since you have mentioned about the costume selections..I would state my opinion on this front.

Madhuri's character was more of dreamy type where she has a vision about her soul mate. More of pastel shades were used and they were styled in a typical Yash Chopra's Heroine pattern. Instead of the chiffons ..Madhuri's outfits has been pastel flowy type.

Karishma plays a friendly, possessive, bubbly and caring character. So her costumes have been designed considering these to suit her persona.

I can't imagine an exchange of outfits between Karishma and Madhuri's characters. Their outfits was beautifully designed for their characters.

Akshay wasn't given a raw deal either. It's just that SRK was the main lead and headed a dance troupe...his outfits were designed keeping that also in mind.

In Yashraj movies..the outfits played a great role according to the subject and the characters. And he never goes wrong in that.

But I might agree ...had it been any other director's multistarrer movie.

Did Karishma overshadow her though ? She was nice in it but the character was basically a prop. Madhuri s career waned because she was already a decade into movies and actresses had a short shelf life . She couldn't have possibly extended it into the 2000s as a typical heroine. It was the same for Aishwarya. By 2008 it was officially over for her. MD realised it was better to quit before things got worse ,got married and went away. Chandramukhi was a nice comeback but afterwards she was neither here nor there. There weren't any roles for 'older ' actresses in mainstream movies and she was not talented enough for Shabana Smita roles. That ghagra uthake agra viagra song was just embarassing.

Public felt that SRK and Karishma were meant to be...we can argue that Kajol was better that Rani in KKHH...In this case it was Kajol and Rahul who were best friends. But then I sobbed seeing Rani's ghost at the end. It is how the director knowingly or unknowingly manipulates the audience.

The reason why Salman was mad at SLB..Or Sunny was angry with Yash Chopra.
