In my opinion, Rishta's downfall started in gen 3 because the writers shifted the show from a largely female perspective to male perspective. In gen 1 and gen 2, both Naitik and Kartik had solid arcs, graphs and proper characterization, etc. but the show still was largely portrayed through the female gaze. But gen 3 and gen 4 has stopped doing that and the writing does a huge disservice to the female leads than the males and hence the disconnect and massive failure.

Yeah she is not part of the OG bloodline but was an integral character as a child in gen 1 and gen 2 and got her own spin off because she was so loved.
