A brave pigeon facing two aggressive hawks!! Well. What to say about that? The most ignoble day in recent American history. It looks no more edifying even many hours later.

Donald Trump’s treatment of Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office has left the entire world along with some Americans reeling!!

Zelensky wants US to 'stand more firmly' on Ukraine's side, is it true?

Why Trump and J.D. Vance tried to bully over Zelonsky?

Volodymyr Zelensky, the leader of Ukraine, was harassed in the Oval Office by American President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance for having the audacity to suggest that perhaps, perhaps, possibly one of the most infamously dishonest and malevolent actors in world politics should be approached with a degree of scepticism.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky leaves the White House after meeting with US President Donald Trump, in Washington, DC, February 28, 2025.

Jacqui Heinrich, Fox News' senior White House correspondent, reported that Trump “kicked Zelensky out” of the White House. She also claimed that the lunch originally prepared for the leaders would now be eaten by the press staffers.

The White House meeting between the two leaders opened on a warm, diplomatic note as they discussed the minerals deal between the U.S. and Ukraine. Tensions flared when Vice President JD Vance accused Zelensky of being “ungrateful” and "disrespectful." Trump also slammed Zelensky, saying the Ukrainian leader was “gambling with World War III.”

That was the catalyst for what happened at the White House yesterday. Mr Zelensky, clearly frustrated by Mr Trump’s credulity, when it comes to Vladimir Putin, sought to bring attention to the Russian dictator’s record of treachery. Of breaking agreements. Of lying.

It came after a war of words in the Oval Office in which Trump told Zelensky to make a deal with Russia "or we are out" and US Vice-President JD Vance accused him of being ungrateful, which was denied by Zelensky.

He noted that Trump wanted to end the war, which began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, but added that no-one wanted peace more than Ukraine.

The ill-fated White House meeting was intended to precede the signing of a deal to give the US access to Ukraine's deposits of rare earth minerals. Instead, Zelensky was told to leave early before it could be signed.

European leaders rallied behind Zelensky, but Nato's secretary general said he must "find a way" to restore his relationship with Trump.

Who is right and who is wrong? What will be the consequences?

The continent’s leaders are struggling to deal with the fallout after Zelenskyy was berated by Trump in an on-air exchange that put the fraying trans-Atlantic alliance on dramatic display.

It was a high drama unfurled in front of the entire world.

What erupted was unprecedented to say the least. The genial tone devolved into acrimony and chaos. Voices were raised, eyes rolled, aspersions cast - and all in front of the world's TV cameras.

The US president and vice-president berated the visiting leader, accusing Zelensky of not being grateful enough for US support that has sustained Ukraine's war effort.

Tensions flared when Vice-President JD Vance told Zelensky that the war had to be ended through diplomacy.

What kind of diplomacy, Zelensky replied.

Talking over the Ukrainian president, Vance told the visiting leader it was "disrespectful" for him to come to the Oval Office and make his case in front of the American media and demanded that he thank Trump for his leadership.

Journalists in the room watched with gaping mouths as an extraordinary exchange followed.

"You've done enough talking. You're not winning this," Trump told him at one point. "You gotta be thankful. You don't have the cards."

"I'm not playing cards," Zelensky replied. "I'm very serious, Mr President. I'm the president in a war."

"You're gambling with World War Three," Trump responded. "And what you're doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country, that's backed you far more than a lot of people said they should have."

Vance retorted: "Have you said 'thank you' once this entire meeting? No."

Ukraine's ambassador to the US watched with her head in her hands.

The atmosphere had shifted entirely - and all out in the open.

Trump should have treated Zelensky better.

Also, Zelensky should have talked in a better way.

If he wants help, taking money from the US and their taxpayers, he can't show ego and talk against them and will think the US will help.

They are not India that lets people go away due to our ideologies irrespective of whichever party is in the center.

He honestly caused more harm to Ukraine, and Zelensky profited most from this war.

He could have stopped and avoided this war but he didn't.

U.S. President Donald Trump is right to say Russia’s war against Ukraine “never should have started”—but the blame for it lies entirely with Russian President Vladimir Putin, not with Ukraine and its president, Volodymyr Zelensky.

At his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Tuesday, Trump went on to say: “You have leadership now that’s allowed a war to go on that should have never even happened.” On Wednesday, Trump went further, calling Zelensky a “dictator” who took money from the United States to go to war.

This is not a war that Ukraine sought, but is the result of having been invaded by Russia. Ukraine is merely trying to defend itself, rightfully regain territory seized by Russia, and ensure this doesn’t happen again. And the dictator in this war is Putin, who has been in power for two and a half decades, not Zelensky, who was democratically elected president of his country in 2019.

As U.S. and Russian officials conclude their initial talks in Saudi Arabia on the war, it’s important that Americans understand that it is Putin who bears responsibility for the massive loss of life among Ukrainians and Russians. Putin is guilty of war crimes and genocide against the Ukrainian people. Putin is the one who could stop this war at any moment.

Pressure to end the war, in other words, needs to be applied on Russia, not Ukraine.

That was one of the least diplomatic political diplomacy meeting in international politics, or at least in the eyes of the public. Makes me wonder where global politics is generally headed.

The sensation of disorder is not new, nor even its quickening pace. But every year the erosion of current international norms is more marked, and events become more unpredictable. The world is increasingly decentralised, diversified and multidimensional. War, warnings, peace talks, everything is happening simultaneously. And yet this reshaping of the world is still wide open because several struggles are playing out at once!!
