oh hey there, yeah i agree on GSMI where they butchered the FL but the chemistry was still viable amongst the duo.
baaki, its not an out-of-the-box plot, but its not that bad albeit a bit rushed.
Actually, Pari wasn't the lead - it was Kajal.
I'd say Pari was one of the central characters which took turn for the worst.
As for the story, yes, it's a common trope - city boy and girl from a hilly region.
What made it memorable for me was the cinematography and the character arcs of both the leads. For me, it was elegance at its best in simplicity.
Kajal was throughout devoted to Neel and Pankhuri did a fab job in portraying her vulnerability. ☺️

I don't think it's FLs always. In my experience, it depends on the PH.
As for GSMI, Kajal wasn't butchered, it was Pari who was more like a parallel lead, not the actual FL.
I was talking in context of Tara.. especially with the Devgarh track. But also with Ishaan's earlier show - ZMGA, they made the FL do pretty questionable stuff and then tried to show her all mahaan. So quite a few times it happened.Originally posted by: Nush_Rat

ah i remember that sister too -- for me, she kinda started to get somewhat pesky in terms of character execution with passing episodes. initially, i thought their story had potential but it did go super south. they had good actors so that made the storyline bearable to watch in generalOriginally posted by: Nush_Rat

Oh right
I haven't watched ZMGA, so can't tell.
In general I feel ITV audience prefer super human beings as the FLs and in making them so, makers introduce so many unnecessary twists and turns which actually makes us question their choices.
I mean it's rare that I have actually ever liked any FL of mainstream popular shows. The only two exceptions are probably Ishaani (Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi) and recently Savi (Ghum Hain Kisikey Pyaar Mein).

Yes. The makers really tried hard to establish her character as innocent but she was a real trouble-maker, whether it concerned Kajal or Dev.
And I'm not sure if it's my bias or not, but even though they had an antagonist in NeiKa's story, I was somewhat okay with it because every step of the way the leads sided by each other which is extremely rare in mainstream shows.
In the later part, the makers tried to force Pari and her in-laws which added nothing - neither twist wise, nor story-wise.
While they still had a lot of things to explore, I was still glad that the show ended without butchering either of Neel and Kajal.
Because, the OG show was a blackhole of negativity and the leads were unbearable.
