I do feel Leena was most expansive with Ani’s characterisation and even her reasons to keep Ani in a dayra or periphery somehow tied in with his core traits.
As viewers growing up on or fed the staple of ITV male leads trying bossing around for me Ani is a welcome change. I never held it against Ani that he took his time to decide where his heart lay… after all he was in a committed relationship and trifling with people’s feelings wasn’t his trait ( the delayed realisation may have caused himself and J untold misery though due to some actions ) but I haven’t seen him do anything wrong after his realisation…after the tumour track and the HA track
If I have a morally uptight lover, what could I do beyond convincing … situationally Ani Arshi were entitled to some time for closure of a dead relationship ( it was dead from Ami’s side and Arshi refused to acknowledge the death even after seeing the signs) but we saw that the story moved to a precipice with deceit, danger etc and made the lovers stuck in a vortex - Ani held to a compromise or situation he assumes he bears responsibility for and J is shown holding herself to a moral standard she herself resents…So what do I make of this love story? Leena acts as if she wants to challenge the norm if itv but in practice she doesn’t really deliver anything revolutionary.. I would appreciate if she could have shown J climbing down the high moral ground in any manner… since this will not be delivered.. for me this will always be a half baked idea…For me Arshi didn’t exist in the tale when it began and she doesn’t exist in the tale now… a love story depending on a third angle is no story at all…
Forgive me Rekha my 2pence turned out more to be a dime. Sorry if I repeated anything from before.
This show is written in such a way that everything is up for interpretation. There is no clarity and it is intentional; and when there is so much ambiguity, each viewer will pick up and zone in on different aspects, based on what hits them most. It's difficult in a show like this to see it from a neutral perspective. You relate more to Ani's perspective and me to Jhanak's. Would you say you are a nuetral viewer Rekha?
There are viewers who feel like you that Ani took a long time to realize the nature of his feelings for J (bold above), there are viewers like me who think he did realize them from day 1 and it is his always incorrect thinking (core trait?) that he has no control of his fate, that made him drag out the story to the way it has has turned out. He neither let go of J nor Arshi; dialogs like love and zimmedhari - 2 parts of his heart are cringe. A stronger decisive man would have realized in this scenario it has to be one or the other and embraced it. What you can call 'expansive and keeping him in dhayra of core traits' - I agree, as long as you agree the traits while well intentioned are wrong. Even today Ani one day flip flops between forgetting J fully and yet keeping her in his heart (like the origin of this discussion
)
When a viewer feels the ML realization took long, it's easier to explain Ani's reactions as confused or conflicted - during aag incident or the AK shoot night abuse (both where he shows trust in Arshi over J). On the other side if like me, you watch the story thinking Ani loves J; but its "his fateful what has to happen will happen" attitude & fake zimmedhari (i say fake bcos even being well intentioned both him and J were unable to let go of the other fully not bcos of fate but also their own actions) messed him up from breaking up categorically with Arshi and choosing J. You would have liked to have seen J come down from her moral conflict whereas for me the focus was on having Ani take Arshi out of the equation from him romantically before expecting acceptance from J prior to his settling his relationship with Arshi; esp when per precedent, every single make or break time he chose Arshi.
To a large extent, Leena maintaining this story/dialog ambiguity intentionally is what has made this show so hotly debated wrt ML vs. FL and sustained its interest from a forum debate perspective
. If she had written a tight story that was clear and single threaded we would never have had our discussions. I do believe that she chose this way as a strategy, so she could open many threads without closing and move the story in whatever direction she wanted; do her ML vs. FL angles keeping audience arguing it out; except after 450 episodes, the expiry date was reached from audience patience for this type of wishy washy storytelling.
I for one have always been glad we don't see eye to eye as it what led to these debates with different perspectives. I can always see where you are coming from and I hope I have been able to communicate mine. There have been many times when a new perspective from you or another has changed mine. It's also nice that while we see the story through different lenses, everyone collectively loves Runak and there is a common condemnation of Arshi.
Fingers crossed - we see a new phase for Runak now, even if it is rushed and does not make full sense. Like Krushal said watching a show knowing we are headed for a leap is such a downer; but maybe Leena will give us some reward and closure. Based on Krushal's IV somehow I feel there is hope.
