Bilal Abdullah is sanctified and elevated as a farishta, but he is a one-dimensional character with no other facet besides Sadaf's personality. Again, KRQ knows how to write MLs, but Bilal is NOT written as an ML in an ML-centric KRQ drama. Danish in MPTH was a farishta too, but he was three-dimensional and was the POV character. Instead, Bilal is written exactly as how KRQ writes parallel male leads in a (FL-centric) KRQ drama. Just because it is Wahaj and the marketing tells you he is THE lead, but the writing does not support that claim.

The criticism of Sadaf putting up with so much for so long is that it does not fit the character. Someone like her may have forgiven Ammar the first time and given him the ultimatum then (that time when Sadaf slaps Ammar). That would have made sense. But they keep piling it on (cheating, verbal and physical abuse, gaslighting), while Ammar shows no fake remorse nor tries to cry or love-bomb Sadaf to give him chance after chance (in fact, he doubles down, blaming her character for assassinating her). Even Amma on GL doesn't get it (and she is not some hater).

LMAO Sadaf doesn't have any POV in this show. She is just the centre object and everyone's lives get regulated by making her do what they want.Bilal wants to marry her,Ammar was blackmailing her,Humsha wants remove her from Bilal's heart,Her father didn’t want her to be near Bilal.Wtf does she want???They just show her making decisions on everything others say.Why they NEVER show what does she thinks about things. In the early episodes we got long scenes of Bilal's reactions of the things happen around him like What he feels about marriage, how lonely he is,how he drinks and hores around as coping mechanism, how much Mirza Saab's words affected him, what did he think of Sadaf's indecent proposal. But what about Sadaf? Why there is monologue about why did she start hating on Bilal hearing what hamsha said?Or how did she feel knowing he donated Z his bone marrow?Or ehy she suddenly chose Ammar?Or why did she think selling herself is the only option she has? They just showed her doing things, but never her POV.That is why people could never connect with her because she doesn't have any voice of her own.Why does everything that happens in her life is in relation with others?

On the other hand Bilal was written to show as some Masiha who will not be considered by any female with a brain by the things he does, but becomes an angel by doing charity. He decided he loves Sadaf and did all those ehsaan on Sadaf without her asking and it made the audience believe that it entitles him to Sadaf's mind, body and soul forever. If Bilal didn’t give Sadaf the 8cr for free I don't think people would gave hated her for rejecting.KRQ made Sadaf resort to selling herself to make Audience feel disgusted and in the same scene made him understand her trouble and gave her the money for free to show see how much better the man is than the woman. She is doing something so hideous but he is granting her khairat like a god.Even if Bilal is the parallel lead, then KRQ made sure that his parallel lead is the only likable character in this show because the so called main lead Ammar is abusive and toxic

The show needed complete contemporary and classic way of storytelling but they have tried to make it look attractive by putting Wahaj in it,marketing it as Sadaf-Bilal chemistry and love story...and they tried to sensationalize it in every way possible...

Also in terms of writing,Sadaf is a very poorly written character..in the initial episodes, she looked really immature and impulsive..instead of confused.

here I have a contradiction:

@b: nope, here too she was ready to leave Ammar. She’s not desperately hanging to make it work. She is made to go back because of her mother - toh kahan rahi uska choice ? Her mother gaslighted her & made her think domestic violence is okay - when in reality it is not & that’s shitty.

so truee.Because of so much Ammar,Hamsha since 7th episode people have forgotten the stories of the main leads.Sadaf has only one parent in this world and marriage is no joke for women in this society. Is it very unrealistic that she listened to her mother's regressive advice when she was in trouble?

They can do what they want. My only point is that if they’re saying that their purpose is to provide constructive criticism then the message may most likely get lost.

This is not how it works anywhere else. Typically the pilot of a show is reviewed and it can be brutally criticized, praised or a bit of both. That’s usually the extent of what critics do. Some may continue talking about popular shows and can continue reviewing them…usually it will be something that has some hook to them and not one that they have completely panned. Those are just ignored. Personal bloggers may review shows that they like or hate and I can compare that to Aamna and Hassan (not to the extent that even they get into it). Industry colleagues do not sit week after week discussing any shows let alone one they don’t find has any redeeming qualities to it. It’s a weird concept anywhere else.

Maybe he was big in Pakistan but I just don’t feel he reached the level of fame Wahaj did internationally so it isn’t an appropriate comparison to me

You have better ideas than the show makers themselves smiley36 I would vote for this too but the chances of it happening is less than snow ball’s chance in hell.

KDH are reviewing it just for views at the moment. They nitpick each and everything whether is it’s good or bad . Fuchsia and SH have their biases too but they appear far more sane to me.

Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar are old, it’s understandable for their careers to be on the decline. They will always be superstars…especially Salman Khan (all the khans). They have made their mark. People wrote off SRK and he came back. These things are not that simple for anyone but we can’t compare Wahaj to them…they’ve been doing this a lot longer and have earned their dues. They’re in a separate league altogether. Even if they fail now, they will always be superstars.

Zahid might have been big (honestly I don’t know) but I can say as someone living overseas that I had never heard of him because I didn’t watch dramas regularly. Wahaj became known with a group that never really watched dramas before. For me, the only other male PTV actor I’ve seen to get this recognition was Fawad Khan. I mean these are actors that became known faces to those who didn’t watch dramas. They bring in a new audience. Obviously Wahaj Ali has a long way to go before he is Fawad Khan who found further fame and recognition by entering Bollywood. Fawad’s Barzakh was criticized and didn’t exactly get a lot of hits but I don’t believe it really hurt him. Of course Fawad is a bigger name but similarly I think it will take more than this for Wahaj to disappear into oblivion. It may hurt his brand but bouncing back won’t be as challenging as it would be for someone like Zahid that didn’t acquire the same type of fan following and international recognition.

My point was that DESPITE being superstars for so long, Salman and Akshay's recent projects have suffered because they lost audience trust due to a series of bad projects. My point was about audience trust and social capital and that even superstars (much much bigger than Wahaj) are not immune to it.

Wahaj still has more pull with Indian audiences, but in Pakistan, his pull is diluted. I have #s to back it up. An actor's decline is not a binary state. After TB, Wahaj was being touted as the next Fawad, After Mein, he got relegated to Feroze, Danish level. After SMD, he is no longer in Bilal, Feroze and Danish category. To go from next Fawad to this in 1.5 years is a downgrade, whether you accept it or not. Another project like SMD, and he will be another Imran Ashraf. 2-3 more projects of this ilk, he is another Imran Abbas. Wahaj can still bounce back (though he could never go back the next Fawad lustre - that shine is off). But no one gets infinite chances. Especially right now, the field is very competitive.

I know women who have gone through difficult marriages and haven’t left their toxic husbands instantaneously so maybe that’s why I empathize with Sadaf. It’s frustrating to see but realistic.

Call me crazy but besides the slow pace and the stretched out Ammar/Dania/Sadaf love triangle at the beginning and the Ammar/Dania affair post marriage, I’m kind of okay with the show.

Matlab pehle you play second fiddle in a Maya-led drama magar drama flop hone ka khasaara bhi khud bhugto. If you don't look out and protect your own self-interest, no one else will.

He is not a child. No one forced him to sign this.It is Maya who is facing all the hate from public and he is the only one in the show whose character is loved and his acting is praised. He is not bhugtoing the khasaara of the show flopping. He has discarded the show a month ago but was promoting it when people still had hopes for romance and the views were coming. And he is given full credit for the views. So no it won't affect his career at all.He is already is booked for his next projects with other A listers. It is Maya who is still promoting it even after being bashed left, right and center because she owns up to her decision unlike her colleagues who are behaving like anyone forced them to do it.
