As for the "buzz"...every 'thinking' person knows how easily it is possible to hype a movie (with the needed means) ...so it's the same with disparaging a movie.

I don’t think the fight for screens is about breaking records. It’s about making as much money out of Pushpa as possible. Records is something the actors and producers might care about. Distributors are all about money. If they can make an extra 100 crores (hypothetically) with this fight for screens why wouldn’t they? It’s an unfair fight but greed is a powerful motivator.

Varun needs to slowly build up his appeal again. Perhaps an item boy number in Alia's Love and War and sucking up to big directors for big roles again.

I heard he was doing Border 2 with Sunny Deol. That is a start I guess.

Honestly, I'm not worried about Varun...the filmindustry knows that he is a good actor

What do you feel is the other issues at play here?

Baby John is produced by Atlee who after Jawaan has some clout of his own, doesn’t he? I don’t see Thandani getting into a power play or territorial war with him. And I doubt anyone thinks Varun will break any records and overshadow superstars of south or north. To me this feels like it’s about money, but I’m curious to see your take.

Well, I just give you an information that also is part of the picture:

After the success of Pathaan it was almost sure for the ditributors that Jawan would - most probably - become a mega-success, too. So, when the auction happend for the distribution rights, Thadani also bit and - at least to AA Films - it seemed that they would get the rights especially because AA Films had been the distributors of other Red Chillies productions/SRK-starrers before (Badla in 2019 being the last one)... But then, in an unexpected turn, the distribution rights for North & West India went to Pen Studios (Pen Marudhar Cine Entertainment, incorporated 2018) leaving Thadani 'high & dry'...

Just imagine a bit what a kind of good business Thadani 'lost'... well, he acquired the Animal distribution rights and then the (Prabhas movie) Salaar distribution rights (before he had the Hindi distribution rights already for another Prabhas movie - Adipurush). It was while distributing (the Dunki clashing) Salaar, AA Films was actually 'caught' with cheating about the boxoffice income by faking shows that didn't happen). But only very few named this movie...mostly only hints were given about the increase of 'corporate bookings' not naming the 'big' movies, so that the field of speculation got opened with the well-known targetting (Thadani & AA Films have a lot of power & influence...& money to get certain deals made).

Btw, Baby John is again distributed by Pen Studios...and by the PVR Inox Pictures...
