So many twists and turns. I sort of expected Arnav to be a ghost. But, I did not expect Khushi's death at the end.

You can certainly make it into a three or 4 shot Stuti. Try.

Maria, such a lovely book cover. I am so happy to see the efforts (of graphicer and the writer) went into making the story and book cover blend into each other. Stuti's idea did wonders to this contest.

Coming to your questions - Yes, Arnav was a ghost... and the last line before the breaking news, where Khushi resigns herself to her fate... her eyes fluttering close... that was the moment she died. She submits herself to Arnav and chooses to be with him... but he was a ghost... so the only way for them to be together was for her to die as well. Maria and I had initially thought of making him come back to life instead... but eventually this bittersweet ending seemed more fitting.

The end was planned... Arshi filled in the rest of the story by themselves . Had the contest not had a word limit, you could have easily gotten 3-4 chapters out of this with the way the words were flowing at that time . As it stands, I don't see how exactly the story could be taken further... but for you, I might spring up a couple of surprises which you can consider as extensions sorta .

This was really intriguing from the beginning 😍

Yes... I had fun exploring the mystery / thriller concept while keeping Arshi in the center .

Hehe! There were little hints sprinkled throughout... about something unnatural going on... but I didn't want to make it very conspicuous... so that the the sudden twist at the end would feel jarring. Glad to know I succeeded in that .

Believe me... I'm just like you. I steer clear of sad endings... especially those with death of a character. No matter how angsty the whole story might be... I need it to have a HEA.. or at least a hopeful ending.

While plotting out this OS, Maria suggested making Arnav come back to life... but eventually, this felt more apt for the situation. And I don't think of it as a typical sad ending... with Arnav being a ghost, Khushi's death was one of the only ways for them to end up together... and she was given a choice, she accepted her fate. It's kinda poetic... to me at least .

The Badtmeezi dialog was a callback to IPK... happy you felt the same. Thanks for the appreciation . Have fun reading all the other entries for this contest -
