I really think the difference is we saw him romance her and we know he is in love with her and then to see him behave the way he does is horrifying whereas in the other shows once they fall in love, they adore their women.

He has but he has to suppress it because of his mom. He tells her it's all a farce and he did it for revenge/to get his brother out of jail.
