Given performance issues are not limited to one actor, Haseeb is also very much at fault. Even a seasoned actress like Saba Hameed was so one-tone giddy and OTT (to the point that it feels like she is more interested in BA). When so many otherwise astute performers who have delivered more nuanced and layered performances in other shows all of a sudden get so one-tone or veers from the character & situation, iska matlab hai Haseeb is either giving them some bad brief or, at the very least not correcting them. Actors ki bhi responsibility hai, but we do not know if, behind the scenes, actors raised these points or not.

Someone said that SMD should have been directed by Nadeem Baig and I feel he is right. Haseeb's style doesn't match with KRQ.

Nadeem Baig has the exact opposite approach to Haseeb when it comes to KRQ scripts. Instead of leaning into the OTTness, he leans back and goes for restraint. Humayun works well in KRQ shows because he typically underplays the character. Even Nadeem Baig filming style for KRQ is more grounded. In MPTH, he specifically decided to keep the frame very narrow and contained and not make it larger than life (I heard this in an IV). This restraint and scaling back counterbalances KRQ ke script ki OTTness instead of amplifying it even more like Haseeb did.

I recall Humayun saying that Nadeem's filmed episodes are usually fewer than the number of episodes KRQ writes. So, instead of stretching the script, he likely editorializes it to make for a crisper show. Also, the fact that Nadeem and KRQ are friends means that Nadeem can probably get KRQ to okay the changes he wants to make. For example, Afzal dying in PA was not in the script, but it was Nadeem's idea. I am not sure how much interaction KRQ and Haseeb even had (if any).

KRQ has never even acknowledged SMD. He usually writes the OST of his shows but didn't for SMD. The script was probably lying in some old desk at 7th Sky's office and then Kadwani decided to use it.

But KRQ had a cameo in SMD, no? And he did mention SMD in one IV. Though yes, he does not talk a lot about it.

KRQ and Kaddu signed a deal in 2020. But then KRQ had a controversy and he got canceled and 7th Sky suspended his contract. At that time KRQ had said he'll never work with Kaddu again So, either this was an old script that KRQ delivered under that old contract, or if it's a new one, KRQ decided teach Kaddu a lesson for suspending his contract back then.

I remember him only praising Wahaj and Maya's performance once I feel Haseeb has taken too much liberty . The proximity he has shown between Ammar and Humsha , KRQ will never write like that !

I know you’re actually following the show so your criticism is valid. I guess I just don’t know why people who aren’t watching are so invested. That part is weird to me.

I’m not denying the flaws. Yes Saba Hameed was a bit extra but I didn’t pick up on it looking like she wants Bilal all to herself 😂 I’m dying thinking of it appearing as though she’s crushing on him 🤣 In her defence, she is single now, lol. I thought she was meant to look like she was somewhat under his spell to make Sadaf more weary that her mom isn’t thinking clearly. I do see problems with the show especially pacing which I blame on Haseeb. I don’t mind the performances though overall.

Farzana being interested in BA was just unintentional comedy.

The parallel between "I'll do anything" and "Maango kya maangte ho" was unintentionally funny, especially when combined with Saba's acting in 1-2 scenes where her cktr tilted away from sounding grateful into sounding giddy and girlish territory.

Another unintentionally comedy moment between BA and Sadaf's mom was in e13. BA comes out of the airport gate behind Z and he gives this 70% sharmeela-30% tharkeela expression and then the camera immediately cuts to Sadaf's mother, as if BA was looking at her like that

I don’t see any criticism like that here on IF . It’s Reddit or Instagram which has been hating SMD since day 1. It’s as if Maya and Wahaj have committed blasphemy by starring together.
