It is a very interesting time for ptv. Ary had some decent stuff lined up this year. I left IF last year after the TB forum derailed. Currently enjoying Qarz e jaan.

A good script needs nothing and a bad script with production house's ulterior motives will bring any show down whether you cast Fawad, Fahad, Faisal or Wahaj.

I took a look at the SMD thread, and it's an eco chamber of people asking why people don't like it and how it's still getting views.

It's very simple. All you need to do is look at it from a neutral perspective.

- The script that played out is not very good. Now that may not be the writer's fault completely. One is welcome to write a script where the leads have only a few scenes and don't end up together. It is about how you show it. SMD failed in that department. The writer talks about a single topic repeatedly (zehr).

- The truth is, neutral viewers do not like it because they have figured out's Khadwani uncle used Wahaj's popularity to launch his second son. This is the biggest reason. No one is buying any excuses.

- I have seen Wahaj's work from early days. He improved a lot. And right now, he's fantastic and emotes his emotions so well. He can only do what's given to him. There is also an issue with picking a script and sometimes it's luck. Even with Mein's views, his on-screen daddy stole the show.

- I saw Maya back in Aunn Zara. She had a lisp, which was not an issue. It's mostly not there anymore. She has a beautiful screen presence. But she is not on par with Sanam B or Sanam S or Saba or Yumna. This group is her acting cohort.

- She did well when Sadaf finds out about her brother's cancer diagnosis but for the rest she's a weak link. Her dialogues are strung out. She spends more than 3 seconds on each word. (If anyone has doubts then I'm happy to point out the episodes and the time stamps).

- SMD has 20-30 seconds of silence or a gap between people speaking. No neutral audience is going to take that.

- The dialogues are dragged out.

A show can resonate for many reasons:

- good script ( forever a classic like dhup kinarey, rakeeb se. Think of most of farhat and umaira's work )

- trp and views doesn't matter for shows like dil na umeed.

- crazy chemistry ( even if the script is illogical or it's a soap with 80+ episodes).

- Even with horrible script sometimes shock factors sell (Jalan and Jan nisar ). This is the favourite strategy of Geo. When it is so scandalous, people can't look away. That gives views.

Reviews do not always matter. I find Amna and Hassan to be fair often but they also present odd bias for their faves like Mahira and humaiyun and a few more. Sometimes shows an elitist attitude. Same goes for other reviewers.

The SMD thread has people claiming it's hate and that's hilarious. There might be a few out there. But people on that thread claiming neutral people or people who enjoy scripts are picking it apart because of wahaj or something else is just silly.

No one enjoys shows that drag dialogues out at 0.25x speed and has uncomfortable gaps between dialogues. Even if the script was mediocre then at least it should have a spice factor like Jalan and Jan nisar. No one likes being fooled as it was promoted in one way but was actually a launching platform for kaddu's son. Products being falsely advertised leaves a bad taste. It does. And that is why many people are not enjoying the experience.

Yumna bigger Star hai. Wese Jafaa ko Sabaat ya HKKST ki tarah Sunday slot par rakhte to TRP bahut badiya milti. Missed opportunity for them

The ratings are really impressive specially considering the show tackles social issues for a niche audience.

Because they know yumna is the standout performer, she’s the strongest in acting out of the 3. She’s achieved this status pre TB where people watched for her and even reviewers did the same. She never cared about views or looks all she cared about was her craft. She’s an honest performer and wants to entertain her audience. She chooses scripts over directors and doesn’t care if she acts with a newbie aka Azaan Sami Khan or Zaviyar. She doesn’t even care about the channel - in her prime she did a drama for TV one knowing it won’t get her views but it was a dream role. She chooses scripts based on roles that she wants to do (bucket list roles), roles that challenge her as an actor and roles that appeal to the mass audience as she knows not everyone will like her cause based roles. That’s what you call a performer. She’s done very few commercial roles and most of her career graph is full of roles that are critically acclaimed aka non commercial scripts. She started off in that way and only moved on to commercial roles mid way through her career after establishing her name. So she’s already built up her audience, performance ability. People know her for her craft and have trust in her being able to do justice to her role. Wahaj is a great actor and pre TB he’d proved his capability and excelled in showing variations. TB gave him the stardom and Murtasim was a great role for him. Maya is just a weak actor (who has great screen presence, model looks) and has always been hence the low expectations from her as she can’t perform as well as the other 2. There’s always going to insecurity for someone whose strong in their craft and has that commercial appeal because you’d always want them to stay underrated and Yumna was for a long time till PKS. Audience isn’t dumb and they know who can act and who can’t. Whose diverse and out of them all Yumna is a chameleon of an actor, every role is different from the other, she’s very versatile. Wahaj is too (pre TB). Even Maya said in an interview she wishes she got offered DNUTN role because she doesn’t get such scripts only the same typecasted heroine role. That’s because she’s not versatile and directors and writers know who can pull off such roles aka Saba, Sajal and Yumna. She said that these 3 actresses get the best scripts and people like her don’t get offered. I wonder why?

I don't think they are Maya fans. They are certain actors hardcore fans who are showing their loyalty by degrading their fav's old co stars. Won't get surprised if they start degrading Maya too in future just like they are doing with yumna and ayeza now.

Not just older co- actors, they even degrade the current supporting actress of their fav’s show only cos she is paired opposite the hero

I won’t deny SMD have plenty of problems but some people would never like it such as toxic shippers from Wahaj’s previous show and those who dislike KRQ. That bias is certainly there.

I think every show is criticised pretty finely and unbiasedly here in IF . If you want to see actual hate, go to Reddit or even Instagram

There is a difference in getting TRP of 5s and 6s vs TRP of 9s and 10s which KMKT got in its initial episodes. If you check the DT, when KMKT had just started to air, we discussed here whether KMKT is underperforming and did Fahad's starpower not work. So this discussion is not limited to SMD only. If SMD too was getting TRP close to KMKT in its initial episodes, defending it would at least have some merit. Dragging others doesn't change the fact that SMD is the third worst TRP for Geo in 2 years among the 8 pm slot. That wasn't the case for KMKT.

I am curious which are first and second. Btwn Geo really is on dark phase. I am watching few shows of them some years ago. They used to be bad then too but atleast content was better than now.

Ary has always been the better one. Hum only airs one or two good show a year and many time the show they promote as good ones turs out to be far regressive.
