Yes, I agree. I like Sridevi as an actress but as a person, this was a huge red flag. She had a habit of going after married men, including Jeetendra. She befriended Boney's wife Mona and put a rakhi on Boney in front of her. I have no idea if that was her idea or his but the fact that after they got married with a shotgun wedding, she told Boney he was forbidden to stay in contact with Arjun and Anshula also tells me she wasn't as good a person as we'd like to believe. I know she had a troubled past with a stage mom and not enough affection, but there's only so much you can excuse.
What I've found in general is that most of our stars are more appealing onscreen than offscreen. The wide majority of them should emulate the characters they play onscreen because their onscreen personas are far more likable and sympathetic than who they might really be in real life.
In Sridevi's case, she even made public claims that she would never marry a married man so it's somewhat more insulting that she did the exact opposite of what she said.
Jaya has unfortunately turned public opinion against her with her attitude in front of the media. Before I started seeing her stunts in public, I admired her because I only knew her from the characters she played in the movies. Usually self-sacrificing mothers like in K3G, KHNH, and Fiza. Then I started to actually watch her real life videos and she comes across as so rude and belligerent. Her stunt with Sonali Bendre where she walked off immediately when Sonali wanted to take a picture with her was so unnecessary.
In contrast, Rekha is always graceful. She's always kind to fans and to fellow stars, acting as a mentor to young actors. She's at every awards show and big event so she keeps herself relevant and her performances are superb so she hasn't lost her starpower. She hasn't done a movie in a decade but she's still a household name in an era when most young people don't know anyone who is older than a 90s star.
The way you maintain yourself also is a big deal, especially if you're a woman. Jaya let herself gain weight and she doesn't dye her hair or wear a lot of makeup. Rekha is always dressed like a new bride, in her signature gold sarees, with full makeup and hair done to keep herself looking timeless. So frankly, even from a physical perspective, most fans will see Jaya look like a grumpy old lady who let herself go whereas Rekha looks like a diva.
