All due respect to your research Hypnotoad, but makers using the word “Chemistry,” Magazine covers and photoshoots, coining ship names or premieres is NOT the same as calling the leads “should get married metaphorically” - cringe statement which on its own can maybe be dismissed, but was taken up by multiple media pages and even shared by the friggin director. You yourself called him out on it yesterday that he should have kept his mouth shut. This type of involvement will get tongues wagging about PR whether it’s true or not. It will put people off.
Even if you say that this isn’t deliberate PR, which I don’t think it is, this was definitely allowed to escalate, perhaps even used, and not handled which is literally the PR’s job. Now it’s reflecting poorly on the team and is being viewed as cheap publicity. It’s taking away from the genuine goodwill people had after watching the teaser.
As for the IT couple of Mein, you just need to see the show to find the humor in that. Couple tha hi nahi. But you’re right that it was not part of the show’s promotion (at least Maria B didn’t fool us there but ARY did).
Read my next post where I concurred with unicorn.
I do not for a second think that Aima Baig was paid by anyone's PR to write that comment
I do not think the veryfilmy or GL articles were PR posts either. Those posts essentially insinuated an extra-marital affair between Wahaj and Maya - thereby calling one an adulterer and the other a homewrecker. These posts did not even mention the name of the show in either the tags, caption or pic. I said this before and I say it again, no A-list celeb in ptv would hype themselves as adulterers or homewreckers. PTV mai toh celebs apni doosri halal shaadi chupate hain for years (Mohib-Sanam and numerous others) for fear of backlash. Link up rumours between 2 single people are completely different.
What Haseeb did was extremely stupid and dumb I have said before. If he thought it benign compliment for onscreen chemistry or thought playing it off as one was a good idea, he is a mega-idiot for doing so.
The issue is not that PR was active but PR was inactive/bad to not have addressed it in time. These portals like GL are especially looking to make posts that will get celebs bashed. Just look at the Yumhaj tour. GL only posted stories about the tour that would get Yumna and/or Wahaj criticized and bashed, but did not make any positive posts. They did not even post about what Rehan said at NJ event even though both Diva and GL were tagged by him. None of these portals ever talked of the 750 people in Dallas, the good fashions, the constant trending with 15k posts, or any other positive things.
I don't think deleting the comment would have worked. People would just have said kuch daal mai kaala hai tabhi delete kar diya. But there was need for other quick PR response in place - whether it was to contact Aima to clarify immediately; communicate to the whole team not to share this story; or contact portals to get these articles down I. remember when Diva or GL posted an article insinuating Sajal is having an affair with Shehzad Roy, her team got it taken down very quickly.
However, turning this whole thing into an accusation that this is a cheap PR stunt by Maya and Wahaj to hype Mahaj lies with the subset of yumhaj fans and masked elites who hate maya/wahaj. This cheap PR narrative did not come after Haseeb shared the story, which was many many hours later. The cheap PR naara first started on X even before GL posted -- only an obscure portal veryfilmy had posted by then. Anyone with an ounce of brains should have known then how ridiculous it is to think the Aima is being paid for this (or to take her seriously), or that anyone at this level in ptv will deliberately present themselves as an adulterer & homewrecker.
From what I saw last few days, Wahaj should know that for a not so trivial subset of Yumhaj fans, he is just the Murtasim carrier (much like Ripley in Alien 3) and that they are not his well-wishers. Being a well-wisher is like the bare minimum criteria for a fan. If you want to see your "fave" suffer and fail, be maligned -- in fact degrade them yourself -- you are no different from a hater or a troll.
Based on this, there is need for actual PR that is anticipatory, coordinated and responsive since there are quite a few ill-wishers waiting to pounce and spin doctor a vile narrative out of anything about smd, wahaj and maya, and then spread it around.
