I think he believes once Rahul and J get married , R can not deny J's responsibility and will therefore be there for her at every step of life and take care of her the way Ani wants to.

I do believe he feels a strong sense of responsibility towards Arshi as well , he can't even think of dumping her , kahina kahi he feels himself responsible for both of them and can't shun either of them .
