IMO inflation can be reason for the loss, because rural voters care about cost of goods more than the urban folks and people also have a gripe about the establishment about their land being taken as part of development projects but weren't happy with the compensation, which can be witnessed even from Varanasi (Modi ji's victory margin also has dropped)
