Despite his debut movie Kamoshi and other less lavish movies, Bhansali seems to nourrish a strong inclination for grandeur and eyecandy-sets. If only the stories and casting would be as much elaborated as clothes and decoration.

That's some interesting info but Heeramandi is largely fictional as far I’m aware.

Sure, it touches on real events like British colonization and the courtesan world, but it's all shaped up by SLB's directorial vision. The meticulous attention to aesthetics in his movies has its own audience.

It’s another story that I wish he had channeled some of that energy into the storyline itself. It starts off as a compelling internal drama within Heeramandi, but instead all of that fizzles out and ends as something else altogether.
