A forced marriage is what it would have been if Yuvraj had been successful in his attempt. What happened between Abhira and Armaan was a wedding that was an attempt to honor the wishes of a mother in her deathbed and to bring her peace. If consenting to a wedding on the grounds of emotional manipulation by a parent can be considered forced, half the couples in India would be in divorce courts by now. For those quibbling about how this is just semantics and word play, that is what the law is all about. It looks at the words used, the context and the motive before deciding a case, if a couple went to court after nine months of cohabiting and said they were forced into marriage because of parental pressure under unusual circumstances, the court would have asked them to proceed to seek a divorce on grounds of incompatibility. The forced marriage clause cannot suddenly come into play after nine months of co-habiting. If Abhira felt she was right in using this argument, she would neither be feeling guilty nor heartbroken. It would not have taken DS’s emotional blackmail to achieve this. Bottom line, if this were to, this case would not have stood the test of exceptional or forced circumstances and would have been shunted to a regular family court. No question of granting a divorce in 15 days. This is not a defence of Armaan’s character per se but, on this, he is right in questioning the invoking of the forced marriage argument here. He may be emotionally distraught but he is still thinking like a lawyer. Rest it is a shitty ITV soap and who cares about right and wrong or nuance, just upload crap everyday in the name of an episode. However, making a mockery out of medicine or law gets my goat everytime. Stick to your saas bahu lane and don’t venture into areas that you don’t have a modicum of respect for!
