While Malaika and Arbaaz Khan were out partying on Tuesday night, thieves decided to help themselves to a few goodies from the couple's home. So, when Malaika and Arbaaz finally returned at 4 am to their flat at Vida Apartments, Bandra, they discovered diamond earrings worth Rs 75,000 and Rs 5,000 in cash missing.
WHAT HAPPENED
On Tuesday evening Malaika and Arbaaz had gone to attend a party at Enigma in JW Marriott thrown by Zayed Khan's brother-in-law DJ Aqueel to celebrate Zayed's impending marriage. The couple were there till around 2 am after which they left to have dinner. They finally reached home at 4 am when they discovered the theft.
Initially the couple only discovered the cash missing. It was only later that they found a pair of diamond earrings worth Rs 75,000 also missing.
"We have filed a complaint at the police station. There is some replastering work going on in the building so it could be one of the workers," said Malaika.
According to Malaika, it was only their baby son and maid who were in the house at the time of the incident. "We had left our son with the maid at home when we went to the party," said Malaika. According to the cops, the couple had left their balcony open, through which the robbers may have entered the house.
The balcony led to the couple's bedroom where the theft occurred. The cash was taken from a purse and the earrings were lying close to it.
"The couple had forgotten to close the balcony before they left home. Due to the replastering work a good number of workers had access to the building. We suspect it to be the handiwork of one of them," said Amitabh Gupta, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), zone IX.
The Bandra police have questioned some suspects but no arrests have been made so far.
