Very true, no excuse for Malini here, she being at home for so many years and seeing things happening in front of her. But, still she could not control Omi/make him a better person. That explains her upbringing..

I think, she is equally responsible for Omi's behavior/character besides Giriraj. She failed completely as a mother, unless they show some backstory to redeem her character later..

Dont think, Malini is changed overnight. She has been like this all over. She never had strength to fight with Giriraj and Omi himself told her once. The way she stood up for Adi, never did for Omi, which shows she failed as a mother. So, its justified, she could not stand up for Alka here..
