I have a theory. Armaan would have asked Abhira to accompany him but she would have denied him initially. So as usual Vidya would have insisted Armaan to take Ruhi. Later when Armaan wears the dress selected by Ruhi Abhira comes and says she will accompany him. Armaan like an obedient husband changes into the attire selected by his wife

Regarding eating at dining table he was not so upset. It was not shown that he was particularly heartbroken instead he went back to Abhira to share their dinner/breakfast.

He didn't bring Ruhi back only to eat with family at dining table. He brought her back as per Dadi's orders and for his mother's happiness
