No matter how they got married or whatever.deal they had between them he’s still a married man and he’s perusing another woman (his brothers wife) whom he knows harbors strong feelings for him and gets touchy feely with him all the time and he never protested that way ever against it . That’s why out of guilt he did that to Abhira because he could sense her dejection for the same .

.. Writers RS ko seriously nahi pata kya dikhana hai. Itna saare storylines sath mein chala rahe hai. They're probably experimenting with hit and miss, ko chalega trp wise. 
and obviously yuvraj will choose Abhira so they can play kabhi socha na tha ki vaise din bhi aayega
