SRK's first deshbhakti movie (if you call it that) was phir bhi dil hai hindustani in 2000. It was against paid & manipulated media which holds true even for today's time.

It was the first movie he produced (with Juhi and Aziz founding the DreamzUnlimited, then)...he basically made this production house to make this movie...and then, he made his version of Asoka (from warrior to peaceful Buddhism) in an impressive way (imo). Chalte Chalte was just to make money, pay Juhi and Aziz and try a venture on his own responsability. MHN was also a story he wanted to tell - even before VeerZaara - and the end scene still makes me tearing up.

ChakDeIndia was a patriotic movie even before it got 'fashionable' (starting with an India-Pakistan issue)...HappyNewYear was a patriotic movie (also before there was a certain manipulative political narrative) putting the love for the country and being an Indian above a successful revenge (and even reaching a mutual respect between the Korean and the Indian group - with a kid as catalyst).

JabHarryMetSejal already before Dunki showed the impact the love for the homeland can have when one lives far away...

I think, in many of SRK's movies he very well expresses his love for India...a nationalistic choice from the heart.

Many have mentioned it – there's a gap between patriotic and jingoistic movies. SRK's films, gotta admit, never leaned towards the jingoistic side. Chak De India is solid example of how a patriotic film can be nuanced and beautiful.

Now, these jingoistic movies, they're just plain lazy in filmmaking, riding on people's emotions to make a quick buck.

HR was never a patch on Shah anyways..He just lacks the personality, the wit, the intelligence & the sensitivity which Shah poses. He is just dumb and extremely boring to watch both on and off screen..so I won't be missing out on much for sure..i never watch such jingoistic trash be it on any side of the border..they just spread hatred and earn bucks based on communal, religious and political divide. In a time when genocide is happening in the world and kids are being murdered..we have cinema promoting nuclear war between two nuclear powers..slow claps!

IMHO SRK movies have been patriotic but never jingoistic.

Pathan, Jawan, and Dunki had patriotic themes, but none of them put down another nation to show patriotism. Even when criticizing the immigration systems, Dunki didn't show white people or Western nations as monoliths. Never once in their trailers did I feel this is too much.

Fighter did make me go eek. This is too much cringe dialogue baazi. I know jingoism sells and filmmakers are just catering to the audience. And India and Pakistan have had many conflicts. But I think you can show these conflicts without jingoism.

Excessive military glorification often ignores the psychological toll of warfare. Something to note about Top Gun is that even though it makes being a Navy pilot feel like a thrill ride, Maverick and Rooster have internal demons to deal with.
