Should L'il Champs age be increased?

I think 13 as the max age isn't good... and it should be changed. I mean, the normal contest for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa doesn't start at age 14, does it? You can only join that from age 18 +, I'm pretty sure. So what do aspiring 14-17 year olds do? Can't they be heard? They should at least change the age to 15 or 16. Wasn't Shreya Goshal 15 when she won SRGMP Kids' Special? So if she can be that age, how come they can't increase the age now?

What do you guys think?

Oops.. well, I just found out the max age is 14. Well, same concept. Just replace the "13s" with "14s." 😳

Great topic. I have to respectfully disagree with you though. There is a reason there is a gap between the ages of the little champs and the adult contestants, a gap from age 13 to age 18. I think this is done, rightfully if I may add, to assist young male singers to perform to their fullest potential. 13 to 18 is about the age range in which a young man's voice is developing and, in the process, it deepens slowly. If a young man tries to sing while the voice is still trying to develop and find its range, you have a risk of cracking your voice while you sing. Sometimes, a voice that can crack easily may not be able to keep perfect sur and have trouble with the high notes. At 18, the voice of both males and females is still maturing but it has done most of its developing and transitioning from child to adult voice and the competitions can start again. You mentioned Shreya and, this voice maturity issue between 13 and 18 is not such a big deal for girls but, it isn't fair to the guys so that's why there is an age gap.

Chote Ustad (Voice of India) has an age limit of 14.

I was researching L'il Champs age limit - sometimes it says 13, other times, 14.

Either way, shouldn't the age limit be increased at least to 14? Some kids begin maturing faster, (10, 11) and some later (15, 16)

So in both cases, a child's voice can begin to mature really around any age between 10 and 18. So since the age limit is 13, (or 14) a boy's voice can still crack and it may still be considered unfair.

I'm not going to split hairs with you and argue over one year. (between 13 and 14.) Don't worry! There is not too much of a difference there. You still will have a gap between the little champs and adults. It is true that a boy's voice can start maturing as early as 10 or not but, without considering the individual circumstances of each boy contestant, I think it is still a good idea to keep it the way it is, or raise it to 14 if you wish.

No, that wasn't what I meant. 😛 My main point was the very last two sentences of my previous post. 13 or 14, doesn't really matter to me, it's a year. I guess I phrased that wrongly up there. I meant that around 15 or 16 would be more in the "voice-cracking" age range... 14 might not. So at least, the age should be to 14.

Oh, sorry about that, sorry if i misunderstood. If all you are trying to say is to raise the age limit from 13 to 14 I guess that would be alright. there isn't too much of a difference but it won't hurt anything either. When we first started chatting about this, you said Shreya was 15 when she won the little kids special and I was trying to figgure out how a 15 year old could enter when the rules said 13 or 14 and, I guess, she was 14 but had a birthday sometime during the competition. LOL! This is confusing!

thats why girls have an "edge" of sorts against boys...because the boys voices usually crack...and the ones that don't are usually young.. around 11...so a good singer...female...13-14 yrs of age....has, hormonally, an edge over a boy 13-14 yrs of age... due 2 a boys voice being very weak during those years...of course there are exceptions....but i feel that the girls sound more mature and have better voice quality, due 2 puberty, in lil' champs and thats why they win....

Yeah, that was what I was trying to get across. Boys have it tougher (vocally) at that age so there has to be a gap between little champs and adults to give the guys' voices time to mature.

Older SRGMP is from 16-29 not 18... and i think age shoudd NOT increase because guys voices start to change from the age of 14-15 and that wouldnt be fair to the contestants so i think untill 13 is fine 😊
