I think because of the screenplay or putting too many things in 1 story, people have different interpretations of what the message was. It was said in the end that stay in your own country and live with your family, but that completely contradicts the part what Anil Grover’s char says about what better quality of life it’d anyway be in India had he stayed back.

Under current political regime, I doubt Hirani could dwelve too much into the real reasons and issues behind people taking this donkey routes - Unemployment, lack of respect for poor people, corruption and absolutely no plan of betterment of quality of life for poor people (heck it’s not even in the book of discussions of our GREAT leaders including the SUPREMO leader). There is no one protecting them from the system. That is where they get easily fooled into thinking it’d be different in those countries. While it’s true for legal migrants, for illegal ones it’s the same.

Open border is absolutely not the solution. So that monologue also might not have gelled well with people. But the agony of those poor people who end up taking this half-baken approach is what should resonate with everyone. And that’s what I believe is happening too.

Whichever side you’re on, one cannot help but feel empathetic towards these people who have limited to no access to knowledge, get scammed into this dangerous territory. It’s easy to preach others, but I guess not many filmmaker would risk to preach politicians to make this country a better place rather than asking them not to leave. This is something Jawaan did. And we all know how it was received. The message was to the right people, in a right way. smiley16

The message wasn't about suggesting open borders. It focused on the tough journey people go through on the Dunki route.

Agreed with red part.

The monologue in the court was about that. It questioned why there are visa requirements. Well that’s not the solution.

For example, if today countries like USA is able to use the children from African countries to test their vaccines for infants/kids etc. while keeping their own children safe, it’s the failure of the Govt. of those African countries in my opinion in failing to protect their own citizens. Expectation from the Govt. of every country is to protect their own people. Agree to what Hardy said ‘He is safe in his country’. But that’s just his case. In the same country Manu, Buggu and Billa didn’t feel safe. The sense of being unsafe isn’t always triggered from outside or imaginary dangers. It also includes being unsafe from poverty, system, inhumanity. Those also directly put people’s lives into danger. And REAL dangers. In that context all these donki-routers DO feel unsafe at one point of time in their own country. The sole reason that pushes them to this death troop.
