Animal is a disturbing movie, esp when you watch trailers and hear about it, the uneasiness starts. I say watch it, know it's disturbing. You will hate the main character for sure, but watch it to see how and why it's a difficult movie to digest. But seeing it fully, gives you a chance to answer the question marks in your mind. That's my opinion.
