Which actress had the better OTT debut? Madhuri or Juhi
Which actress had the better OTT series debut? Madhuri in The Fame Game or Juhi in Hush Hush. I haven't seen either yet and I wanted to know which one would people recommend watching first.

Just watched Hush Hush. It's a good show but it's falsely marketed around Juhi being the show's lead. She's really more of a special appearance so I felt cheated in that sense.
It has to be Madhuri. But she kind of played herself in the film, and the show was kind of all over the place. That's why the show has not been renewed for a second season.
I liked Madhuri's OTT film Maja Ma much better than her OTT series.
And Hush Hush was an ensemble and Juhi did not have much to do. But it was a much better executed show overall than The Fame Game.
Have you watched the The Railway Men? Juhi plays a key role there (again not much to do), but its a fantastic show, and has only 4 episodes. The show gets better with each episode/
I feel Sushmita still triumphs with Aarya as far as OTT debuts go.
I watched the Fame Game so I voted for that.

I haven't seen The Fame Game yet (it's next on my list now that I've finished Hush Hush and Mentalhood), but I heard it was inspired by Sridevi's death.
Maja Ma is also on my watchlist because it sounded interesting.
Hush Hush was good overall except the ending. The finale was rushed and left too many cliffhangers like the show was clearly planning for S2. Except I haven't seen any signs or announcements of a S2 so I have no idea if they'll make it or not. Juhi was good in the part she did have but her character wasn't given enough screentime imo.
I haven't seen The Railway Men yet. I heard about it but I guessed that Juhi's role wouldn't be very large so I didn't pursue it. Based on your recommendation (even if her role is not huge), I'll give it a go especially since it's such a short series.'
I hadn't heard of Aarya but it looks very good! I'll need to add that to my list too.
I liked Fame Game and I was expecting a season 2 of it. There is certainly more scope for it.

Yes, Hush Hush could have been better. I did not understood motivations behind some characters at all.
I liked Mentalhood and I would totally recommend watching Majaa Maa.
Btw, so in case you are going to watch OTT series of all 90s actresses then the list goes like:
Sushmita Sen - Aarya & Taali
Raveena Tandon - Aranyak
Pooja Bhatt - Bombay Begums
Madhuri Dixit - The Fame Game
Juhi Chawla - Hush Hush
Karisma - MentalHood
Tabu - A Suitable Boy
Sonali Bendre - The Broken News
Kajol - The Trial
Ayesha Jhulka (who was also in Hush Hush) also had another show Happy Family, where she was part of the ensemble cast. It was fun show. You should check it out whenever you get time
And Shilpa's Sukhee I guess you have watched. I kinda wish it was made as an OTT series instead of released as a film. It would have worked much better that way. It anyways was received much better on OTT. But in a way, it was brave of Shilpa and the makers to actually go for a theatrical release.
I also recall telling you about Urmila's OTT series (maybe in a different thread), but sadly it has either been shelved or not picked up any distributors which is strange.
Now if we move to early 00s batch, I wonder what's stopping Preity and Aish from venturing to OTT.
Maybe they are thinking that they are in a position like Rani, who is still capable of headlining and pulling crowd in films.
For Rani, its understandable why she would not venture into OTT.
Even Mahima has done a film recently now and it will release next year. (although the film is headlined by Kangana).

They are sort of the only ones from the 90s (or early 90s batch) to not work at all in this OTT age. Maybe they are thinking that they are in a position like Rani, who is still capable of headlining and pulling crowd in films. For Rani, its understandable why she would not venture into OTT.
Even Mahima has done a film recently now and it will release next year. (although the film is headlined by Kangana)
The characterizations for Hush Hush were not always completely consistent. The bipolar assistant also confused me a lot as to her motivations.
Thank you for that full list! Lots of names I was not familiar with so I will have to check them all out. A Suitable Boy I've wanted to watch for a while but it's not been on streaming anywhere for me to see. I heard mixed reviews about it except that Tabu was a highlight. I didn't know about Kajol's series at all or that it's an adaptation of The Good Wife.
Ayesha Jhulka was very good in Hush Hush. I heard her say that she was thrilled to work with Juhi since both had romanced the same stars but never crossed paths themselves. Glad to see she was part of another show so I'll look into that as well.
I could see Sukhee as a series. As a film, it seemed perhaps too reminiscent of English Vinglish. It seems like playing harried housewives is a popular trend for actress comebacks between Sridevi, Karishma, and Shilpa.
Yes, you did inform me about Urmila's cancelled series. That was a real pity because she's a favorite of mine and I've been waiting to see her back on the screen again. It seems like politics has become more of a focus for her now. I wonder if she's also not been as eager to return to acting for OTT because many of the roles she did in the 2000s were quite daring and unconventional for the era so feels less unfulfilled. Whereas many 90s actresses are finding that these OTT roles are completely different from their film roles.
Preity did have an American TV series which was scrapped and I know she's connected to some movie now but her film comebacks have all been pretty disastrous so I'm not putting much weight in this one either. For Rani, as long as she's married to the scion of YRF, she will never have the need to go streaming. It would probably be seen as beneath her and she can continue a film career at an age where her contemporaries are not finding roles at all on the silver screen. I remember reading that YRF was getting into the streaming/serial business but I haven't heard about if that was successful or not and I can't imagine Rani would involve herself with something so experimental.
I was glad to hear Mahima was coming back but being part of a Kangana film definitely puts a damper on things.
Something I'd like to see is many of these actresses to come together for a series. Maybe it's an ego problem where they still remember each other as rivals and don't want to risk working together in a project where one can undermine the other. I remember what big news it was that Madhuri and Juhi were willing to work together in Gulaab Gang since previously they had been rather cold to each other as seen the other exclusively as a rival.

Yes, I have always been a fan of 90s queens so I always keep track of what they have been doing.
I have watched almost everything on the list, except Kajol's and Sonali's series, but they are on my watchlist.
I personally enjoyed Aranyak, although Raveena was kinda okay but the overall series was almost on par with Aarya. Pooja surprised me in Bombay Begums, as I had no expectations at all. Check them out whenever you get time.
And if you are a fan of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai or Khichdi, then you are gonna love Happy Family: Conditions Apply too (starring Ayesha Jhulka and other names).
Regarding Sukhee, yes the makers need to let go of the harried housewives troupe. Let's see if Shilpa has some strong role in Indian Police Force, or is it for some kind of token female representation.
I have heard that Urmila has actually shot for her series, but it got shelved during post production.... which is so sad. Her being so underrated and being constantly ignored by Bollywood is so painful. Politics aside, I remember she was the only one who stood up for Bollywood in 2020. She is also very well spoken in real life. Manish Malhotra is the only one who values her even now, and always invites her to his parties because she was the first one to get a makeover from him during Rangeela and hence played catalyst in Manish Malhotra's rise in Bollywood. (It was one hell of a transformation for its times)
I agree, Rani doesn't look like someone who would venture into OTT because she will most likely see it as something beneath her. She is at the most powerful position among all her contemporaries, being a YRF malkin. And actually, The Railway Men was YRF's first OTT series.
Manisha Koirala is another strong actress but she has moved on to doing motherly, age-appropriate or secondary roles in films...so I doubt she would headline an OTT series. I hope she gives it one chance though.
@bold
This sounds like such a brilliant idea. It would be my dream show TBH. Now these actresses are not part of a rat race or the number game, so they should/could work together. I would love to see some collaborations that we have never seen like Madhuri and Kajol in a show, or Urmila and Tabu. That will some seriously strong nostalgia and magic onscreen.
