Storyline is kind of different but it flows well with the narrative, performances are really good. Sara otherwise is so annoying, but wasn't intolerable and has good chemistry with Dhanush. She did well I would say and her character is schizophrenic, so she had a well written character too. Dhanush, as usual is great, if you are impressed with 1-2 hindi movies of Dhanush, then I'd say these are not even 10% close to his best work, his best performances are all in Tamil movies, you can try and watch 3, Maryan, Asuran, Vada Chennai, VIP, Kodi (uff what a guilty pleasure) and his recent ones Vaati and Thiruchitrambalam (I love this movie), you will not regret. These films, each of them are better than his hindi films.

I'll have to check it out then. I remember that one of the characters was schizophrenic and that was getting a lot of flack online as people were saying the portrayal was outlandish and unrealistic. Yes, I was deeply impressed by Dhanush in Raanjhanaa so I'm sure his Tamil films are 10x better. I remember hearing about VIP since that features Kajol. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Thanks for confirming. When I rewatched the movie, I forgot that in the beginning she actually does seem to like Dhanush and have feelings for him, like when she breaks down at his suicide attempt. And she reciprocates his flirting until she realizes he is Hindu. That made me think that some of her old feelings for him could have resurfaced by the end but I guess not.

And Dhanush's narration, that if Zoya called out for him, he might still come back to life and find it worth the effort also seems to imply that the reason she's not calling out for him is that she still isn't in love with him.

I find his last thoughts so tragic that he hopes to be reborn in Banaras to love another girl like Zoya with all his heart and soul. The fact that he specifically states he wants to love a girl like Zoya instead of Zoya herself also suggests that he realizes by the end that his love was worth more than her and in the next life, he would just want to experience love again rather than specifically love for her.

In the beginning, it was shown that both Kundan and Zoya were school kids, hence both acted like 15 year old nibba-nibbi, slitting wrist and crying over it, but eventually Zoya moved to a better place, got educated and forgot him, it was implied that from her end it was just a temporary infatuation, while he stuck on to her.

Later of course she used his feelings to get her marriage fixed with Jasjit and made him the the bali ka bakra to convince her family and therefore he felt betrayed upon knowing she never considered him a friend too instead just wanted her own happiness.

I hated Zoya so much, maybe because it was Sonam's face smiley11
