Indrani Halder, aka Sujata on Sony Entertainment Television, wants to thank her husband for being the opposite of what her on screen husband Veeresh, played by Aman Verma, is.

She says, "When I was offered the show, I was told that I would have to shift base to Mumbai since it is a daily show. I asked my husband if he would agree, and he supported me completely and asked me to go ahead with my plans. In fact, in our relationship, he is the Sujata – the understanding, the compromising and the ever-submissive," she adds with a smile.

This National Award-winning actress from the Bengali film industry refutes accusations that her character runs down the image of housewives in Indian society. She defends her character, saying, "My character Sujata represents the fate of the majority of housewives in India. Even after doing everything, do they get any recognition or appreciation?"

Does she relate to her on-screen persona? "Not at all," she clarifies and adds, "In real life, I am completely her opposite. I am very self-confident and also very focussed on my career. I have always portrayed the roles of strong and bold women in all my films as well. This is the first time I am playing a submissive woman."

Although Indrani doesn't feel out of place in Mumbai anymore, she maintains that her heart is in Kolkata. What about Bollywood? "It's too early for me to say anything. But, I must also clarify that I hate running around trees and singing songs," says the lady. What is the one thing that very few people know about her? "I guess only my family knows that had I not been not an actress, I'd have become either an interior designer or an air hostess," she quips.
