ITV and its future

First show I followed till end. Not only the show but, also the audience's sentiment. Now, I understand why most ITV shows are crap as it is and why those crap shows get so much TRP. Honestly, audience will never let a good show thrive on ITV (They might thrive on other platforms). A part of reason for my frustration is also because I think this show is going off air because of the unnecessary rioting of audience.

The excessive obsession with shipping irrespective of the circumstances was baffling to me in the last phase of this show. Audience's refusal to accept that a tragedy has happened at Grewal house is shocking and insensitive. Ship is above all, even though circumstances don't allow it, this is what I learnt about majority ITV audience in this last phase of this show.

ITV audience still sees its FLs and MLs as some Mahaan breed who can't make mistakes or can't be wrong or can't be weak and spineless when a tragedy struck them. This sentiment is stronger in case of FL where ITV audience will not digest even a single mistake by her. I found it hypocrite how audience found it viable for Viaan to leave Katha because her family badly hurt Viaan and not the same for Katha because Viaan's family is hell bent on destroying her life. I found both sides of story tragic. There was a clear bias in favour of Viaan for some reason. Maybe one of the reasons which explains it is that majority audience is female and they have crush on Adnan Khan (Lame explantion, I know. But, some tweets made me think so). Don't get me wrong. Viaan's situation is also miserable. He is witnessing yet another betrayal and abandonment and he is worth sympathy and consolation. But, his plight doesn't mean Katha and Aarav who are also as important character as him were living in heaven for the 8 months. Their plight matters too. And, their story is sensitive too and ignoring their perspective is equivalent of not watching the show and passing the judgement.

Unfortunately, ITV audience still doesn't see the leads as a character of the show, they want them to be some sort of god. No wonder, because of this sentiment so many FLs are absolute doormats and have no self respect and still return to same place to get themselves into trouble yet again.

Let's take KNB and KKB and Pyaar Ka Naam Radha Mohan. FL is assaulted several times, FL trapped in cold storage, FL tried to be burned alive and so on. Any sane minded person should run away but, NO, they come back to same place again to get into problems. And, then audience blame them for their miseries. Audience is so hypocrite. And, for some reason, Audience expect this same kind of doormat behaviour from Katha. Viaan should provide Katha the sense of security which is exactly what he is doing now and that was the point of this track. Katha lost her spine and Viaan will bring back old Katha. Very much similar to Jab We Met. It was truly a beautiful track but, audience won't stop rioting.

At the end, irony is that the story is finally out of its buildup phase and took a good shape now and same audience is praising writers for the old episodes as well. All of a sudden everyone is able to understand Katha's plight and her miseries. Only if they had waited patiently for this track, it would have been beautiful. Audience needs to realize that this is a daily show not a movie, details and complexities take time to unwrap and digest. They will not throw everything in one episode.

This show should have been on OTT not on TV so that better educated and sensible audience was able to access this show. Audience which has sensibility to understand difference between a storm and a bomb. There is another genre I follow, that is Animes. Many a times, leads are not that strong but still, those are good. In some of them, we are 6 seasons in still, so much to explore and each episode takes a week to air. Still, people watch it patiently instead of rioting.

Finding good ITV shows is a fools errand. As long ITV will be characterised with old age saas bahu drama and saas bahu saazish, new audience won't even try to look for good shows in it as they have access to countless OTT platforms. As a young male audience, I was lucky enough to find this show. I wouldn't have believed myself a year ago that I will be wasting my time and energy for an ITV show.

All I can do is wait for another show like this. But, Katha Ankahee has set the bars so high that it very unlikely to find something which will be at par with this show

Although I don't know how that happened as actors are less expensive, never went for outdoor shoot, always used 3D to show even a tree or road or even houses.

@Red They failed to make profits because audience refused to watch patiently. Audience has rioted before as well as soon as leads in this show took even a slight step away from each other or KaViaan scenes were lacking for one or two episodes for the sake of story and development of other characters. If makers make exactly what audience wants then, there will be no story and everything will be monotonous. New stories are made by exprimentation. This is the reason why so many ITV serials are similar at its core as the audience wants. Back in old times (I heard from some) TRP reached 7 to 8 points. Now, it is capped at 3 at max. No wonder TV audience is reduced by half and those who are remaining are the ones who either can't afford streaming services or, still enjoy the age old saas bahu drama. If what happening in this show isn't what audience wants that's why TRP dropped then, why other serials have relatively high TRPs? It means the audience still needs that ITV way. ITV audience is still in old age and want that saas bahu drama with FL in saree and returning back to same place where they have no respect pure doormat. And, this happens not once but, many times. FL and ML = Mahaan and can't make mistakes, they are not human beings. They are not characters like every other character.

@Bold Its just glimpses. Just one episode is enough to know what is happening. Watching glimpses in case of Katha Ankahee doesn't work and is misleading. Watching glimpses isn't equivalent to watching the show for me. Rest, making of ITV serials is generic so, a lot can be predicted.

I wanted to point out this behaviour of ITV audience for some time but, waited for the show to get out of its buildup phase which has happened now.

Come on. Look at sony's shows' trps. Even the reality shows hardly ever reach 1 point. And those are expensive. Kavya is 0.2 and it's probably the most promoted show, even has a repeat telecast. What profit is the channel trying to make when there is hardly any investment in the first place? No promotions, no marketing. If trps are the only way to get profits then I don't think any Sony show is profitable. Was Ahilyabai raking in truckloads of money for Sony at that slot? Even the worst of worst Star and Zee shows have better trps than Sony's shows. By Sony's standards Katha was still doing well. And I think trp would have improved once we were out of this build up zone and when the story once again focussed on Kaviaan.

Agreed that the writing had gone a bit astray when it came to katha, but Viaan was still holding the fort. And it wouldn't have mattered in the long run if they had time to address the whole after leap issues and give katha some kind of redemption. It is more annoying now because we didn't get anything for all that patience. As a plot that was just building up it wasn't allowed to reach a logical conclusion. It's like hiking a mountain. After making the audience do all the tiresome climbing, we were abruptly airlifted and thrown back down just before we could reach that summit to enjoy the view. Sabr ka phal meetha hota hai. That's why Sony axe one by one show and brings new show, head has lots of money and hope that someday he will be succeeded

Saw Kavya got 0.2, that show is next in line but I am doubting Katha, how they fail to collect what they spent after using all the 3D for every scene!!!! I feel 2nd hand embarrassment while watching outdoor scenes

Sabar kaa phall bitter hai for Katha Ankahee, btw they took more than enough unnecessary time for build up that's why Katha Ankahee close to bankruptcy

Who cares. Jo sony ne KA ke saath kiya uske baad toh inka channel off air ho heen jaana chahiye. Pura ITV heen off air ho jaana chahiye.

Honestly, few glimpses of this show and it is evident it is about everything except being an IAS. It will demoralize every women from becoming an IAS.

I just want to tell you I stopped watching this show when it becomes boring. Nothing has to do with shipping. I stopped when they were focusing on viaan parenting learnings. Then only now i watched till the new character was introduced. The new parallel lead was boring. I was never much impressed by adnan any way.

kathaa has not set the standards high. It doesn’t have the standards to be a web series!!! It is just decent only because the standard for itv now is very low. Itv shows back in 2010s was more entertaining and fun with good character development and less toxicity than Kathaa.

i am done with ITV. There is no point in expecting good from them.

Watching web series is the best choice now.

No probs . The nature of topic it took in the beginning it had to be more explicit about it but, on ITV they had to be mum only Webseries and OTT platform will allow it to be explicit and long stretched at the same time.

How do you even know about the bankruptcy? Is there a way to know what profit a show is making and which is going in the negative

And imo the build up was necessary. They had introduced new characters, a new family so a little bit of foundation, a bit of background was necessary. The show wouldn't go beyond 100 episodes if they fast tracked everything. It's itv lol. The leads play hide and seek for atleast 3-4 months. It was thankfully never that long here

When I watch itv show, I'm prepared that there will be some very good, some good, some average, some bad and some very bad episodes. There will be fillers and there will be some dragfest too. As long as a show averages above normal and gives good and very good episodes more than the bad ones, I'm game for it. And Katha has given more good episodes than the bad ones
