How does the pitch play?

The Eden Gardens track is considered as one of the better batting surfaces although spinners tend to come into action as the match wears on. Spinners have enjoyed bowling here in IPL games as well.

The pitch supported medium fast bowlers in the previous match.

Not so much for the fast bowlers or spin bowlers.

This is just my opinion based on my own research.

Just a little over halfway through the tournament and these two sides find themselves on shaky ground. In familiar conditions, Pakistan and Bangladesh just haven’t been able to progress through this tournament like they would’ve hoped to. In many ways, both these sides face similar challenges. The fact that things are unsettled behind the scenes isn’t breaking news and the general feeling is that both teams are desperately trying to keep the pieces from falling out and are hoping for a moment of inspiration that’ll glue things back together. A win today could be just that - the glue that’ll hold things together, at least for now. Plagued by injuries and lackluster form, Pakistan have performed far below expectations, netting just two wins from their six. The story isn’t much different for Bangladesh. Their only win came in the opening fixture against Afghanistan and the fact that they’d been missing their skipper half the time didn’t help their cause. While a semi-final berth seems highly unlikely for both sides, Bangladesh will be on a side-quest that Pakistan had the luxury to skip (having qualified directly as the host nation) - qualification to the 2025 Champions Trophy. That then sets the stage for what could be a very important win for either side. Stick around, toss and playing XI updates coming very shortly.

The Eden Gardens pitch in Kolkata is renowned for providing a balanced playing field for both batters and bowlers. It often offers good bounce and assistance to fast bowlers, especially in the early stages of a game. However, as the game advances, the pitch tends to become more favorable for batters, allowing them to play their shots with confidence. Spin bowlers can also come into play as the match progresses, benefiting from the pitch’s ability to grip the ball. Given these pitch conditions, the captain winning the toss is likely to choose to bat first, aiming to set a competitive total on the board.
