Normally, just in the case of Judges, people expect high-quality judgment from Umpires.
If that faith breaches, people tend to question it like this.

i dont think umpire did anything wrong in denying a wide
it was india’s game anyways and it was still 10 over ish to go
if it was a close match then it would have been questionable
in the end everyone is happy with kohli’s century
those who r not r just finding excuses

In the past cricketers have been penalised for doing such thing. Sehwag was left stranded on 99 when Sri Lanka's Suraj Randiv bowled a deliberate no-ball in an ODI. Suraj Randhiv was banned for one match.
Coming to this incident:
Do check where is Virat's front leg when Nasun was about to release the ball.
The pic below clearly shows that Virat moved to the right to let the ball slip by him. If he had not moved it would have hit his pad.
As per ICC Rule:
22.1.2 The ball will be considered as passing wide of the striker unless it is sufficiently within reach for him to be able to hit it with the bat by means of a normal cricket stroke.
22.4.1 The umpire shall not adjudge a delivery as being a Wide, if the striker, by moving, either causes the ball to pass wide of him, as defined in clause 22.1.2 or brings the ball sufficiently within reach to be able to hit it by means of a normal cricket stroke.
So I don't think the Umpire gave wrong decision and it's a very close one.
Hardik Pandya, who sustained an injury on his left ankle during the match against Bangladesh in Pune, won't be travelling with the team to Dharamsala ahead of their match against New Zealand, stated a BCCI media release on Friday (October 20).
