Maybe DB didn't want to reveal he slipped, so.SP decided to take the blame and they took oath from Devyani to never reveal this truth to anyone

I don't think that SP was such a good father to accept his grandson as his son....also why does it matter? DB didn't officialy take a vow to not marry right?
