I am guessing they want someone else other than Akshara to look bad. MJ asking for abortion is out of her character at least for me and a little too much. It definitely makes people think about how sad Akshara's situation is. to add to that we also have Abhir's -ve reaction to the baby again to make it seem Akshara is right to marry Abhi when in fact it's no longer the case now or to create an extremely sad situation for her.

MJ was wrong to ask that to Akshara. She could have just asked everyone to stop discussing marriage. In fact, both families should stop discussing the marriage. Its better if it does not happen.
