I wonder how tv actors seem so chill about trash scripts and characterizations. Is it really that easy to just switch off their brains and do what's asked even when its cringe. Like day in day out 12+ hours/day they work in a show with 90% trash content. Dont they get upset? Is the money so good that they dont care about the story? But not everyone can be so money focussed that the quality if project is inconsequential.

And its not so much about playing a negative character or a cheating husband/wife etc or a short tempered character or a gunda etc - its the way its potrayed. Honestly the negative characters are more challenging perhaps to play but itv often makes it look crass except some of them- usually cameo ones. Like I have watched many web series with grey or outright negative characters but it does not make me cringe.

But this story does!

Honestly Rumi is more tolerable than Seerat but overdose of him gets tiring.

Seerat Angad crap is plain unbearable and cringe.

Manbeer also is unbearable. I mean i have never watched a show and felt happy to see a woman realize her husband cheated her but manbeer ko dekh kar lagta hai- she deserves it. Itna cringe she is. Actor cant pull off this character at all.

And characters like Garry and Jagtap in ghkkpm were liked because they had a unique swag. Like no one endorses the actions of those characters but they are unapologetically themselves and the actors playing it have a unique flair to make their characters entertaining instead of cringe.

I don't think all actors can pull it off. Roopam certainly cant.

And VJ is better than neil bhatt of ghkkpm in not looking too "soft" in his facial expressions for Seerat but his acting cant salvage a trash script too much.

True . I was wondering how come males are allowed inside Sahiba's hostel? When I was in college,males could not enter female hostel or pg. May be times have changed now.

Just my 2 cents. ITV content me improvement is very much needed. Yes, 90% of it is pure trash, regressive stuffs that are somewhat brainwashing/influencing impressionable audience into believing things, adhering to things that they should not. ITV very much does need a serious revamp. But the problem with your argument is you are asking the wrong person to take the responsibility. An actor has very minimal to zero power to influence or change scripts. Production house & channel hold most of that power. So if change is needed, the change should come from these two.

But again, at the end of the day it's all about business. Channels that try to promote progressive or lighthearted contents aren't much successful. Sony shows hardly get trps. NDTV Imagine & Star One shut down. So channel also doesn't experiment much, Jo chal raha hai wahi becho type mentality.

In India, TV show's target audience are mostly the older generation. The Maa Maasi Chachi generation. My Mom herself watches dozens of these shows totally unbothered about the regressive content. Majority of the audience is like that. Our generation just have got frustrated and moved on to foreign & OTT content.

So ITV is stuck at this shithole and nobody bothers to change the equation because at the end of the day it's a business and business me loss kisiko nahi chahiye. Actors are totally powerless to do anything about it. They are just mere employees. Think of them like yourself. Suppose you are an employee in an Indian branch of an MNC company. Can you influence or change what the management in the headquarter is deciding sitting in Paris or New York? You don't have that kind of power. Actors have only 2 options. Take it or leave it. If they leave it, how will they pay their bills? It is their bread an butter. They have to earn anyhow, no? It is like trying to fight the crocodile while staying at riverside. Actors who try to voice their displeasure are generally dismissed and then PHs make sure that they don't have a career anymore. Who would risk that? For something that nobody else care about?

I don't know if you guys know about this or not, but do you peeps remember Erica Fernandes? Heroine of Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi? She also played Prerna in Kasauti Zindgay Ki remake. She was quite popular few years back, thanks to 2 back to back popular show. She was on the rise. And then she reprised her role as Sonakshi in KRPKAB season 3. Which was a insult to the original KRPKAB. All the characters were butchered thanks to idiotic writing and that season wrapped up within 3 months. Apparently it's because Erica quit the show because she wasn't liking how Sonakshi was being portrayed. She was pretty vocal about it & posted her reason of quitting on Insta. Fans adored her guts for it. BUT! Do you see her anywhere anymore? She has completely vanished. Last I saw she has left India & shifted to Dubai for work. Just imagine! How the offers have dried up for her here! Where as in this, Shaheer Sheikh, a much senior actor than Erica, actually supported the PH in this fiasco by giving statements like everyone did their best (including the writers, producers etc) & it's not possible to make everyone happy. And! He is happily working on his nth no. of show now.

That's how it is in the industry. You have to lick the PHs' feet to survive or you'll be crushed under it. Who, in their right mind, would risk that? As an audience, it's unfair on our part too, to expect these actors to totally ruin their career, destroy their lives because we are feeling dissatisfied with the shows.

Yes, people are overestimating power of actors. It is tough to find a footing in this industry. It is tough to maintain it. Acting is not a stable job. You need to make hay while the sun shines.

Smriti Irani quit Kyunki due to fallout with producer Ekta Kapoor, shows trps did not fall and Smriti came back to Ekta compromising after few months.

They are getting to do what they love is a huge deal. Shows run for 1000 plus episodes , at some point your character will get butchered, what can an actor even do. They don't even get to read the script peoperly before they have to enact it, raat ko dialogues likhke aate hai subah bolna hota hai.
